Much of GPs efforts are focussed on Type 2 diabetes so that the needs of patients with Type 1 are less well met. This session will provide an update on current views on Type 1 management and deal with the concept of Type 1 ½ diabetes.

There is an enormous burden on the diagnosis and surveillance of skin lesions with appropriate but pervasive anxiety about the increasing incidence of skin cancers and the effect of sun on the skin. This session will deal with skin cancer in general, their epidemiology and the link between sun and malignancy. As fits the tropical venue of the conference

the whole relationship between sun and the skin will be discussed, and with a rheumatologist in the faculty positive effects will also be covered.

This session which will look at fibromyalgia and soft tissue injury and the challenge that is posed for those caring for such patients. The resources consumed by chronic pain are immense and a rational approach yielding better results will make a real difference to both patients and their physicians. The discussion will then move to sport related injury and overuse syndromes and pains a commonly encountered problem in practice. Highlighting the more obvious diagnoses appropriate therapies whether physical or pharmacological, delegates will be more confident in managing this range of conditions

One of the challenges in practice is recognising the truly urgent condition when it presents. From corneal abscesses to dendritic ulcers from retinal detachments to acute glaucoma there are many instances when immediate management can be sight saving. As well as these essential situations this session will look at helping delegates to deal with the acute red eye as well as conditions which lead to sudden change in sight.
