From the Missions Committee (Reprinted from Baptist Press www.baptistpress.com, news service of the Southern Baptist Convention) Concerning our missionaries sharing the gospel, {“International Mission Board president David Platt says two things are true:
God is at work through missionaries around the world and praying for them matters. This isn't just a rushed or mechanical exercise.
God has ordained our prayer as a means to accomplish His purpose in the world.”
Platt said, "We've got to be aware that our praying for boldness for missionaries is actually going to affect whether or not they have boldness. God ordained it that way. When we pray, God works."}
The same can be applied to our local mission endeavors as well. Bro. Bill has continually preached that we should be intentional and faithful in our praying, giving and going. In his first sermon to us, our new pastor, Bro. Kevin, read Matt. 9:37-38, “Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” Bro. Kevin said, “Jesus’ attitude was compassion, grace, and mercy, … meeting people where they are. He felt compassion in His gut.” Have we consistently felt that?
Have we begun to follow our new “Under-Shepherd” by praying for laborers, as the Great Shepherd directed? Our new pastor asked, “Could it be that we have allowed the enemy to lead us away from seeing people the way Jesus does?” Let us be faithful to pray what Bro. Kevin asked us to at the end of his sermon, asking Jesus to:
Transform my activity
Give me Your compassion, grace, and mercy
Restore to me a vision of what You can do
To join with God in accomplishing His purposes in the world, this is where we start.
