    .

I will start my report by thanking the following members:

Margaret Tembo, Anne Sushames, Ann Key, Anne Thompson and Elaine Hicks who are going to be part of the 2019 Exhibition Committee.

If you would like to be part of the Exhibition committee, you will be warmly welcomed.

At the October Committee meeting there was a discussion about the Year badges which are given at the Christmas meeting. Previously badges have been given for 10, 20, 25 and 30 years of membership. It was decided that there will now be a badge to commemorate 15 years of membership.

Organisation of the Quilt-In is well underway, with it being again held at Club Italia. There are a few changes to previous years but should contribute to our Quilt-In being one of the best.

You might be aware that the Guild has a Facebook page - Jodie has kindly given me permission to share posts. Being a bit of a Facebook junkie, I see quite a few Quilt Exhibitions, Quilt-Ins advertisements as well as notifications from Victorian Quilters which are shared to our page for your information. I often see “Likes” from previous members whose names I recognise and others who have probably been members. Great way to spread the word about our Guild.

Recently my daughter and I went to the Geelong Library to hear Rosalie Ham speak about her new book; we had been when she discussed her book The Dressmaker. Her new book is entirely different to The Dressmaker but still full of delightful characters, some of whom she described which brought peals of laughter from the audience.

Jodie for organising another lovely display of quilts

and promotional area at the recent Geelong Show,

plus thank you to the ladies who helped promote the

    Guild at the Show.

Sue Palmer who is taking on the role of Newsletter

    Editor

Lisa Hollingsworth for producing the last three editions.

    Hello Everyone

This month I’ve enjoyed the Bellarine Quilt Exhibition , Elizabeth Gower Exhibition, Wool Museum

Jewellery and Interior Design Exhibitions, White Night, Little River Art Show, Social painting in

Melbourne, lectures at the library, having many coffees out, walking and appreciating the beautiful

    spring gardens, especially the roses!

Also looking at many quilt books, textile designers stories and rediscovering my fabrics, absorbing

so many ideas and getting ready to make something soon! I’m lucky to receive this cat quilt from my

sister, my two cats approve! PS this is Bertie & a ring-in testing the quilt.

Thanks to Judy and the Regent Street Stitchers for 21 more pillow cases for the Alannah & Madeline

    Foundation.

Thanks to Sue Palmer who will become Editor from next month, please email your articles and information for inclusion in the newsletter to

    news@ geelongpatch.org.au!!

GEELONG SHOW REPORT - Photos on page 14

    Hi All,

It was lovely to spend some time sitting, sewing and spreading the word of our group.

We had a few people take the blue new members forms and other info. Some people took our old newsletters for the details of the area groups because that’s what suited them better.

We sold 20 raffle tickets, raised $40, which covers the cost of our show tickets.

The quilt was won by Debra Menser from Seddon, so I will post the quilt to her. She was very excited to have won.

To display our quilts we had to stand 2 tables against the wall on their end and drape the quilts over it. Margaret suggested we look at investing in something like a portable expandable back drop screen that would easily fit into a car boot.

We ended up in a room in the budgie pavilion, so we had a table, but no display screen like last years.

Great light for stitching and we had signage this year. I’m not sure that we got as many through as in previous years because of the location we didn’t get as much through traffic. Last year we were in the Lions Den with Diversitat and as people came in for something to eat they would wan-der over and have a look at the crafting groups, so much better exposure.

Might be worth thinking about having a mini quilt making activity for the kids, even if it’s a square quilt sandwich with a go cutter shape on it and they finished it off sashiko style or something easy. Penny, the card maker had a bookmark to make and she had lots of interest. Food for thought.

Still worth being there and getting out into the community. Looking forward to next year.

    Cheers,

    Jodie
