School MissionOratory Preparatory School serves qualified boys in grades seven through twelve with the benefits of a Catholic education. Oratory students are supported in their religious, moral, intellectual, social and physical growth through participation in an exceptional college preparatory program which emphasizes academic excellence, collegiality and lifelong friendships. We develop effective learners in partnership with their families in an atmosphere that encourages continuous inquiry, growth and improvement.Oratory Preparatory School is a Roman Catholic educational ministry of the Archdiocese of Newark. Faithful to our beliefs, we graduate students who contribute to our global community by being men of faith, intellectual competence, wisdom, character, and action.

School ProfileOratory Preparatory School was established in 1907 and is a private secondary school under the guidance and governance of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school is located in Summit, New Jersey and has an eleven acre campus. It is a college preparatory school with an enrollment of 375 boys in grades seven through twelve who represent seven counties and eighty sending districts in New Jersey. Oratory Preparatory School has earned accreditation graded by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.We feature DaGeata Hall, opened to our students in 2017-18, including, a new gymnasium, cafeteria, fitness center, training room, art room and eight new classrooms. Also we introduced a new chapel and new digital art lab in our Bain Academic Building in 2017-18.

Professional StaffThe talented and dedicated faculty and staff at Oratory Prep are committed to providing a challenging college prep curriculum. The teacher/student ratio is 1:9 and class size is generally limited to 22 students. Over fifty percent of Oratory’s professional staff holds an advanced degree (M.A., M.S., Ph.D., or Ed.D.). The demanding curriculum and high expectations of our faculty prepare Oratory Prep students to become well rounded college bound students.

Interscholastic Athletics and Extracurricular ActivitiesOratory Prep competes in the Union County Conference. Interscholastic sports include: baseball, basketball, bowling, cross-country, golf, indoor track (winter), lacrosse, ice hockey, fencing, soccer, swimming, tennis, as well as track and field. A wide variety of intramural sports are also offered throughout the year. Oratory also provides a wide range of clubs and activities that are available to students. Students are actively engaged in athletics and extracurricular activities.

Academic ProgramTo be eligible for an Oratory diploma, a student must complete 160 credits of course work in grades nine through twelve. This is understood to be a minimum of eight academic subjects per year. Students must successfully complete all required courses in all departments. A student will not graduate if he has a failure on his transcript.

Grading Scale: The grading system for the 2018-2019 school year is a numerical system based on a scale of 55-100 (100 point scale). The minimum grade needed to pass a course is 65. The lowest failing grade that can be reported is a 55. Advanced Placement courses are given an extra weight of 5 points. Honors courses are given 3 points.

Class Rank: Oratory Prep offers a challenging college prep curriculum, in which the majority of students can per-form to their ability. For this reason, as well as the small senior class size, Oratory Prep does not rank its students.
