About The Philadelphia Food Policy Advisory Council
The Philadelphia Food Policy Advisory Council (FPAC) connects Philadelphians and their local government to create a more just food system. We envision that all Philadelphians can access and afford healthy, sustainable, culturally appropriate, local, and fair food. FPAC members and supporters come together for monthly meetings. FPAC’s several subcommittees also meet on a monthly basis to delve deeper into specific policy areas. All FPAC meetings are open to the public.
Good Food Procurement Subcommittee
The Good Food Procurement subcommittee advises the City of Philadelphia on how to spend its public dollars on ‘good food’ that improves outcomes for producers, consumers, and the environment. The subcommittee educates and guides key governmental purchasers to develop innovative procurement approaches and establish relationships with regional businesses to increase supply and purchasing of good food.

HEALTHY
The menu offers a variety of healthy options including water or no calorie beverages; fruit and vegetable appetizers, sides or salads prepared healthily; whole grain side dishes; entrees that are grilled, roasted, baked, or poached; vegetarian-based dishes; and low-sodium or heart healthy offerings.
SUSTAINABLY-SOURCED
The business is working in these sustainability areas: local sourcing, organic ingredients, fair trade, humane treatment of animals (including offering vegan or vegetarian options), and other green activities.
FAIR
The business embodies fair labor practices by providing benefits and transparent living wage policies beyond minimum legal requirements.
LOCAL
The business has a valid commercial activity license with the City of Philadelphia and either has more than 50% of full-time workers working in the city 60% of the time, or the principal place of business is located in the city.

The FPAC Good Food Procurement subcommittee developed this guide to help consumers find businesses offering food that meets at least two of the four ‘good food’ values: healthy, sustainably-sourced, fair, and local.
