ETHS Students and Families: The ETHS Career Pathways Programs of Study Guide is a resource designed to help students connect their course selection and extracurricular activities to their career interests and plans. The guide utilizes the National Career Cluster Framework to outline occupational choices and educational preparation that relate to the various groupings of career fields. The current employment outlook for the United States indicates that most jobs will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school. Whether a student is preparing to attend a four-year university, a two-year college, the military or the workforce, the exploration of possible pathways is vital. Though many students may continue to change their minds throughout their high school careers about their pathway selections, it is valuable for students to explore multiple areas while still in high school to assist in decisions about where their skills and passions exist. We encourage students and their families to use this guide and the ETHS Course Selection Guide to help choose courses and activities offered at ETHS that will allow students to explore and develop their career interests. Course selection should be purposeful and take into account high school graduation requirements, college admission requirements, and career preparation. If you have any further questions regarding the ETHS Career Pathway Programs of Study Guide and the National Career Cluster Framework, please contact your grade level counselor or a counselor in College & Career Services. 2019-2020 ETHS Career Pathways Programs of Study Guide 1
The National Career Clusters Framework provides a vital structure for organizing and delivering quality CTE programs through learning and comprehensive programs of study. In total, there are 16 Career Clusters in the National Career Clusters Framework, representing more than 79 Career Pathways to help students navigate their way to greater success in college and career. As an organizing tool for curriculum design and instruction, Career Clusters provide the essential knowledge and skills for the 16 Career Clusters and their Career Pathways. It also functions as a useful guide in developing programs of study, bridging secondary and postsecondary curriculum, and for creating individual student plans of study for a complete range of career options. As such, it helps students discover their interests and their passions, and empowers them to choose the educational pathway that can lead to success in high school, college and career.

Planning for your Future
The current employment outlook for the United States indicates that most jobs will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school. Whether an ETHS student is preparing to attend a four-year university, a two-year college, trade school, the military, apprenticeship or the workforce, the exploration of possible career pathways is vital. Though many high school students may continue to change their minds about their career pathway interests, it is valuable for students to explore multiple areas while still in high school to assist in decisions about where their skills and passions exist. ETHS students must plan their courses carefully with the assistance from their caregivers and their high school counselor. Long-term preparation begins when students first think about their four-year high school plan. As they progress toward narrowing and clarifying their choices, they must evaluate their own achievement record and check to be sure that they have up-to-date information on the programs that interest them. The ETHS Student Services team will assist all of our students in exploring career pathways to maximize their experience and development of their ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan). For more information about ICAPS visit https://www.eths.k12.il.us/Page/855 For more information about the Illinois PaCE Postsecondary Career Expectations visit https://www.isac.org/pace/documents/pace-framework.pdf There are 16 National Career Clusters. ETHS thoughtfully combined a few clusters to make 11 Career Clusters to explore. The following schedule examples are frameworks for discussions with your counselor. Students may follow a framework like the courses below, or select different coursework with the guidance of their counselor.
ETHS Career Pathways ● Architecture & Construction ● Arts, Audio Visual Technology, and Communication ● Business, Marketing, Management, and Finance (combined cluster) ● Information Technology & Computer Science ● Education and Training ● Manufacturing / Engineering Technology ● Government, Human Services, and Law (combined cluster) ● Health Science ● Hospitality, Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (combined cluster) ● STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ● Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics
