ThecityofNaples:LivingandMovingaroundthecityInformationonthecityofNaplesThelargestcityofNaples,capitaloftheprovinceandtheregion,apointofembarkationforemigrantsinthepast,Naplesnowhasalargetrafficofmerchandise(petroleum,carbon,cereals)andpassengers.ItisthelargestItalianport,withanoteworthynexusofrailwayandhighwaysandalargeinternationalairport.Naplesisthelargest city in south Italy and one of themost beautiful, particularly around the Bay ofNaples.ThecapitalcityofCampania,NaplesisthethirdmostpopulatedcityinItaly(afterRomeandMilan),withoveramillioninhabitants,andit isthemostimportantindustrialcenter and trading port for the South. It is a sprawlingmetropolis thatwas foundedbyGreeks,enlargedbyRomansandasaresultisrichinhistoryandstunningarchitecture.Inthe vast urban area one can distinguish many different neighborhoods: the old center,characterizedbybuildingscloselycrowdedtogether,isborderedonthewestbythenewadministrativedistrictandontheeastbythebusinessdistrict,intowhichflowsalmostalltheroadandrailtraffic.Otherneighborhoods,withnarrowclimbingstreets,risearoundthebase of the SanMartino and Capodimonte hills. These neighborhoods have experiencedintense development, typically of the simpler kind, in contrast to that of the residentialneighborhoodsthatstretchoutcomfortablyalongtheVomeroandPosillipohills.

In fact, the quarters thatmakes up the ancient centre stillfaithfullyadheretotheGreco-RomanplansforthecityofNeapolis. del Carmine; all of these places are representative but not unique to the zones whichdevelopedandgrew into thecentroantico.TheQuartieriCollinari -Thesearehillzoneswhich were developed at the end of the 19th century as a residential district for theNeapolitanbourgeoisieilVomerounderwentradicalchangesinthe’50sand’70swhichhasmadeitintooneofthebusiestandmostchaoticareasinthecity.Itislinkedtosurroundingareasbythreefunicolarrailways,butitstillretainsamongsomeofthecity’smostimportantmonuments.CastelSant’ElmoandtheCertosadiSanMartino,werebuiltaround1350,anddominate the city from above. Today, La Certosa houses the National Museum of SanMartino,whichshowscollections,paintingsscupltures,documentsandrelicsofNeapolitantradition,amongstotherthings.VillaFloridianawasgivenbyKingFerdinandoofBourbontohissecondwife;itconsistsofapark,atthecentreofwhichstandsasmallpalacewhichisnowamuseum(theMuseodellaCeramicaDucadiMartina).Theattentivetouristcan’tletavisittothecatacombsofSanGennaroescapehim.Thecatacombsweredugfromtheyellowtuff of theAminei hills in the Capodimonte at the beginning of the second century. Thegalleries,which create a kind of underground basilica leave a lasting impression on theunsuspectingtraveller.ThesepulchreofSanGennaroandthetombsofthebishops,amongstwhomliesthebishopofCarthage.InsidethePalazzoRealediCapodimonte(apalacebuiltin1738andsurroundedbyalargeparkandawoodwhichactedasahuntingground),isthewith its collections and theNationalGallerywith its extensive art gallery. The ZonaFlegreaFuorigrotta-ispartofthisarea,itisamodernresidentialzonewheretheRaihasitsheadquarters,asdoesthePolitecnico;itisthenewheadquartersoftheUniversitaria,andimportant sports complexes such as Stadio San Paolo and the Mostra d’Oltremareheadquarters ofmany important tradefairs, of the Zoo, Edenlandia a large theme park;BagnoliisanexindustrialzoneandisnowhometotheCittàdellaScienza,oftheoldshedsteelworksonbanks facing the islandofNisida;Agnanowas the seatof ancientand thefamous Ippodromo (racecourse)with a nearby nature reserve,where several protectedspecies,arecaredforbytheW.W.F.NumerousRomanremainscanbefoundallaroundthisarea. The peripheral zones do not offermuch of interest to the tourist: these zones aremainly industrial or ex-agricultural zoneswhichhavebeendestroyedover the years bycementwhichhasbeendumpedhereasthecitytriestofindspaceinwhichtoexpand.

TheDepartmentofManagementandQuantitativeMethods(DISAQ)offersahighqualityeducation in Business Administration and Management. The department offers twobachelordegrees:oneinBusinessAdministration,andoneinStatisticsandInformaticsforFirms. In addition, it offers two Master Degrees: one in Marketing and InternationalManagement,andtheotherinManagementandBusinessFinance.Allthecoursesreflectthemaincompetenciesexistinginthedepartment:corporatestrategy,marketing,internationalbusiness, finance, and quantitative methods. In addition, the department is stronglyinvestingone-learningtohelpstudentswhocannotattendtheuniversity,andit’salwayspromoting activities related to creativity and entrepreneurship, in order to help theterritoryinfacingtheplaguesofstrongunemployment,andfirms’mortality.
