Welcome To The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST)!Thank you for the interest you have shown in our University. We are continuously working towards becoming a world-class and truly entrepreneurial institution. It is indeed a bold vision, but an achievable one, particularly when we are building on a strong foundation of applied research and innovation, educating some of the nation’s most sought-after professionals and working closely with industry.

Since its inception 23 years ago, the Institution has grown to become the nation’s top performer in higher education as evidenced by PMR Africa reviews and several other notable accolades. NUST is growing steadily and our academic and research programmes range across a growing number of disciplines at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

NUST has embraced the Namibian government’s ‘Growth at Home‘ industrial strategy, underpinned by the National Development Plans (NDPs) and Vision 2030. Our staff and students have also embraced wholeheartedly, NUST’s strong commitment to community engagement and outreach, as well as sustainable development. We are building inter- and multi-disciplinary alliances and collaborative partnerships with industry and research institutions, at home and abroad, in order to keep pace with a fast-paced world, amid globalisation and giant leaps in technological advances. We understand that success is based on high quality courses, and state-of-the-art facilities, in a friendly ambiance, in addition to experienced and dedicated staff. This enables us to meet market demands and ensure that our graduates are employable, specifically as we are on the brink of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Higher education globally is in a period of transition and the concept of world-class universities is becoming embedded in governmental and institutional policies. This is in order to promote research and innovation and to improve national competitiveness in a globalised world.

As you would expect from an innovative institution, we are constantly interested in discussing forward-looking projects and forging a progressive agenda with partners in academe, industry, government and civic society, locally and internationally. These partnerships and collaborations are mutually beneficial and are set to deliver unique solutions. We therefore, thank our existing stakeholders and invite prospective partners to engage us.

What is the difference between the Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) programmes?

Bachelor of Technology degrees are ideal for students who like science, math and computers and who are analytical and want to know how things work. Teaching methods are a more hands-on experimentation and demonstration during lectures. With a Bachelor of Technology degree you will be an engineering technologist capable of working in both hands-on roles and supervisory or management positions within the engineering industry.

Bachelor of Engineering degrees are ideal for students with mathematical and logical strengths. Teaching methods are aimed at developing and understanding mathematical foundations related to a specific engineering discipline. After completion of the BEng degree a student must register with the Engineering Council of Namibia as a Professional Engineer-in-Training and follow careers ranging from design, project management, policy development, business and financial analysis to various management positions.

Introduction to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (InSTEM)

InSTEM is a bridging programme that targets students who do not meet the admission requirements of programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at NUST.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be eligible for admission to undergraduate programmes in STEM areas, depending on the specific requirements of relevant Faculties.

General Admission Requirements for InSTEM

25 points in 5 subjects including at least a D-symbol in Mathematics and Physical Science, and an E-symbol in English on NSSC Ordinary Level.

OR applicants must have passed at least four (4) N3 or N4 subjects with at least 50% and 40% respectively in Mathematics and Physics equivalent subject.

Applicants who intend pursuing further studies in Health and Applied Sciences and Natural Resources should have a minimum D-symbol in Biology on NSSC Ordinary Level.
