• Private homes & communal facilities• Any tenure (incl Mutual Home Ownership)• Can happen in existing streets, new build, property conversation• Design influences –no template• Self managed by residents• Sustainability key (takes lots different forms)• Typically 10 – 50 households

Cooperative Housing

• Members (tenants) democratically manage homes• Some coops own homes, some manage for

landlords• Range from 2 to 100’s units • (community Gateway’s 1000’s)

Building/managing homes for other people to live in

Development Trusts100 organisations managing community housing.

• Urban & Rural• Defined local area• From 2 to 230 homes• Mainly for rent!

Community Land Trusts:30 projects completed. 125 in development.

• Open membership people live & work • Permanently affordable housing • For rent or for sale (mainly leasehold)• Can include other types of asset – shops, pubs• Mainly CLG, some IPS & Community etc

Self Help Housing: Approximately 100 projects in England.

• Local people renovating empty property • long & short term tenancies• 2 to 50 homes• Tenants SHH excluded from housing market
