paintings and indigenous African wood-carvings. For thisexhibition she has created a series of new painting worksand a large-scale installation in the mezzanine of theDock. She is a member of Aosdána, and has exhibitedwidely both in Ireland and internationally.

Kian Benson Bailes, lives and works in Sligo. He alludesto discourses surrounding identity, its construction anddeconstruction. He makes material and spatialinterventions that reference the various narrativesattached to ideas of authenticity, identity and the body.He is interested in the commodification of queer spacesand cultures, the presentation of these spaces throughtechnologies, and how these juxtapose with mainstreamheteronormativity and the unstable and transmutableconcepts surrounding notions of identity and itsconstruction. He has recently exhibited in Tulca, Galwayand CCA Derry.

Eleanor McCaughey lives and works in Dublin, Her workis an exploration of contemporary representations ofportraiture, referencing the tradition of still life. The workjuxtaposes past ideas of identity and power with newideas, taking reference from elaborately embellishedAsmat ancestor skulls, Christian iconography to themodern day selfie. Recent work has referenced fromAdam Curtis’s 2002 documentary series ‘Century of theself’ which advances the thesis that Freud’s views of theunconscious set the stage for corporations and laterpoliticians, to market to our unconscious fears anddesires. Her work responds to ideas of self expression, the way we examine and present ourselves, attitudes tofashions and the distorting lens of social media. Eleanorhas exhibited both nationally and internationallyincluding the National Portrait Gallery London, the RoyalUlster Academy Belfast, and the RHA Dublin.

ALISON PILKINGTON

Alison Pilkington describes her art practice asexploring the idea of the psychological self andhow this might be manifested through painting. Her paintings are quasi-figurative. Her recent bodyof work attempts to play with how familiar yetcomic images have the potential to disturb ordisorientate or perhaps be uncanny. She focuseson how imagery interacts with the intrinsicqualities of paint, how the paint material movesand how it can be played with. The quality of painthandling, although seemingly casual, is a result ofrepeated attempts at getting something 'right' Sheis a studio artist in Temple Bar Gallery and Studios.

Alison Pilkington describes her art practice asexploring the idea of the psychological self andhow this might be manifested through painting. In her recent body of work she attempts to playwith how familiar, yet comic images, have thepotential to disturb or disorientate, or perhaps beuncanny. She focuses on how imagery interactswith the intrinsic qualities of paint, how the paint

material moves and how it can be played with. The paintings arecarefully planned through several stages of drawing. The quality ofpaint handling, although seemingly casual, is a result of repeatedattempts at getting something 'right'.

The past ten years of The Lost Brothers has disappeared in the blinkof an eyelid. Their 2008 debut album, Trails Of The Lonely, wasproduced in Portland, Oregon, by Mike Coykendall who set The LostBrothers on their singular path. For every subsequent Lost Brothers’album (2011’s So Long John Fante, 2012’s The Passing Of The Night,2014’s New Songs Of Dawn And Dust), attaining the “magic” hasbeen key to its end result.

So it is with The Lost Brothers’ fifth album, Halfway Towards AHealing. Recorded in Tucson, Arizona, at the perfectly titled Dust andStone the album is another step on the right road.
