ANNEX II: APEC 2020 LOGO SPECIFICATION

Description

1. The APEC 2020 logo is inspired by the Malaysian national flower, hibiscus or

Bunga Raya, literally meaning ‘celebratory flower’ symbolising the celebration

of unity and diversity. The Logo shows:

(i) The 21 individual hibiscus petals coming together to form a beautiful

bloom represents the spirit of 21 APEC economies united in advancing

regional economic integration, for sustainable economic growth and

prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

(ii) Despite the diversity of the APEC economies that are reflected in the

different tones of red/maroon, the three pistils in the centre depict the

waves of the Pacific Ocean bringing the economies together under the

APEC core principles of consensus, voluntary and non-binding.

(iii) The 14-pointed star represents the 14 states in Malaysia and the star is a

representation of the inspirations of APEC economies towards a Post-

2020 Vision.

2. The following are guidelines for the use of the APEC 2020 logo and acronym

related or associated with the APEC 2020 meetings. Such use would

also have to be in conformity with the guidelines formulated by the

APEC 2020 Secretariat described in (i) and (ii) above.

Significance

1. The APEC 2020 Logo is the most visible expression of an organisation’s

branding and corporate identity. It creates a brand personality, a set of brand

values, associated sounds, colours, images, even personalities and taglines.

2. It is therefore critical to ensure proper and consistent use of the Logo, upon

which APEC entities can leverage, riding on the legacy of brand equity while

gradually building their own. Consistent corporate identity builds and reinforces

the brand, representing an enduring set of values even as APEC evolves and

adapts to an ever changing global business environment.

3. The APEC 2020 Logo should be used in its entirety in the format and proportion

shown below and not altered, with the following exceptions. Exceptions: The

logo type and symbol can be printed separately only if the artwork is used in

APEC 2020 Meetings or where design space is restricted (E.g. APEC ID

badges, APEC souvenirs). Please note that the exceptions do not cover

website applications.

Perimeter Control

1. The APEC 2020 logo should never be positioned near distracting design

elements.

2. A generous amount of space should be maintained around the logo. Attention

should be paid to the size in relation to other elements.

3. The specific guides governing logo positioning detailed throughout this manual

must always be adhered to. Ideally, there should always be a space of a least 2

cm away from the border.

Use of Graphic Elements

The corporate signature should always be kept free from visually competing

elements. Textured or patterned backgrounds hinder clear identification and should

not be used.

Reproduction Guides

1. To ensure a consistently high-quality appearance, the corporate signature must

always appear clear, sharp and undistorted. Reproductions must always be

made only from an artwork approved by the APEC 2020 National Secretariat.

2. Maintaining a “clear space” around the logo will eliminate potential confusions

that may arise in marketing and communications materials featuring

competitive logos, product names and / or graphic elements.

Page 13: GUIDELINE FOR APEC 2020 LOGO USAGE · APEC core principles of consensus, voluntary and non-binding. (iii) The 14-pointed star represents the 14 states in Malaysia and the star is

vi

Preferred Sizes

1. To ensure legibility and quality of reproduction, the Logo should not appear

smaller than indicated on this page.

2. When sizing a Logo for use, try to enlarge or reduce in increments of 5mm (ie.

25mm, 30mm, 35mm etc.)

3. In instances in which the Logo is applied on small areas, such as gifts (pen, cup

holder, name card holder etc.), the Logo can be used without the logotype. If

the print area is smaller than 5mm in height, the Logo can be used without the

symbol.

4. These principles also apply to the single colour and reversed versions of the

Logo.

Minimum Sizes
