Standing tall at 182 meters, it is almost twice as tall as the statue of liberty. It is situated on an island platform, facing the Narmada dam. This Statue of Unity in Gujarat encloses a viewers' gallery at a height of 135 meters which can be reached through a lift, running at a speed of 4 metres per second. It also has a museum and an exhibition hall inside the statue, depicting the life and times of India's 'Iron Man', Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. 2 Somnath Temple Somnath Prabhas Patan, Junagadh, Gujarat 362268, India Somnath Temple is an important landmark in Gujarat. It's popurarity is only exceeded by the Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka. The temple is located 5 kms from Junagadh. The temple is considered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It is believed to be the place from where Lord Krishna embarked on his last journey. The temple finds mention in the epics, including Rig Veda and more. It is said that Somnath was built out of gold by Somraj and was later rebuilt by Ravana in silver. Interestingly, the temple was built and rebuilt several times in the course of its rich history having being destroyed sixteen times by Muslim invaders. No wonder it's called 'the Shrine Eternal'.

A Sound and Light Show (8:00 PM-9:00 PM)is held, with an amazing ocean-view setting.The beach can be accessed from the temple.Many devotees visit Somnath forMahashivaratri (Feb) and the Kartik PurnimaMela (Oct/ Nov).
