Welcome to another year with GCSHP! Iam delighted to serve as the 2019-2020GCSHP President and I look forward toenriching our membership. I joined GCSHP asa resident – new to Houston and the state ofTexas – with inspiration from my residencydirector, who encouraged active involvementin professional organizations. That instil ledsense of responsibility to the profession hasproven to be exponentially rewarding. It is mysincere hope that our members find value inprofessional organization participationthrough GCSHP and TSHP. As one of the largest local chapters ofTSHP, GCSHP has served the greater Houstonarea for many years, with membersrepresenting the diverse pharmacy health-system workforce of pharmacists, newpractitioners, residents, technicians, andstudents. GCSHP aims to provide value to allits members through professional growth anddevelopment, opportunities to interact withcolleagues throughout the region, andpromotion of the profession. GCSHP continues to offer a variety ofeducational opportunities, networkinggatherings, community service events, andscholarship support to enrich our practice. CEofferings such as sterile compounding, law,opioid management, and preceptorship assistmembers in obtaining required education forlicense renewal. Networking and social eventsinvite members to interact in a relaxedenvironment while connecting with colleaguesand forging new relationships among membersin various practice settings. The upcomingannual Casino Night at St. Arnold’s Breweryon July 18th is the perfect time to meet oldfriends and make new ones! GCSHPencourages members to give back to thegreater Houston area through participation

in community service events during the year.GCSHP also supports two annualscholarships: the GCSHP LeadershipScholarship and the Richard Cadle MentoringScholarship for Pharmacy Leadership. Affiliation with the TSHP affords furtherbenefits for members throughout the year.The TSHP Mentorship Program (openingSummer 2019) is a great way for pharmaciststo mentor students or new practitioners - inthe Houston area or across the state - or tofind a mentor for yourself! Additionally, theTSHP Journal is actively seeking originalresearch, reviews, best practices, andmonographs for publication. TSHP supportsstate-wide conference events throughout theyear. New this year is TSHP’s Neonatal &Pediatrics Conference from October 25-27th,2019 in Houston. Next year, we hope for anamazing turnout at TSHP's Annual Seminarfrom April 17-19th, 2020 at Moody Gardens inGalveston! Member opportunities will includeexhibiting research and quality improvementposters across several practice tracks,moderating sessions, and volunteering forposter and clinical skills judging. GSCHP is committed to furthering theprofession and supporting our members.Members can stay engaged with ongoingevents and opportunities via variousplatforms: the GCSHP newsletter; socialmedia (@gulfcoastshp) on facebook, twitter,and Instagram; and TSHP BulletineNewsletter. The Roger W. Anderson Lecture Award honors thecontinued legacy of Roger W. Anderson to promote pharmacyleadership through recognition of The Houston Program alumniwho have made unique contributions to the future of pharmacythrough leadership, research, and dedication to the growth offuture pharmacy leaders and the profession.
