Gull Aire Village December 2019 - Page 5

Thanks to the Board of Directors and all of the committees for the countless hours everyone put in this year, keeping Gull Aire a wonderful place to live. The Social Club has worked hard and done a great job providing many fun events throughout the year. The November Murder Mystery Dinner was especially entertaining and enjoyed by a very large group of residents.

The Board had requests from some of the residents to look into using Spectrum for our TV and Internet service. We had a representative from Spectrum come to our October meeting to answer questions regarding their service and answer questions the residents had. Although it would be a substantial savings per household, there were many residents that were not in favor of making that change for a variety of reasons. Because of Spectrum's requirement of 100% participation, The Board has decided not to pursue it.

We hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving and with Christmas just around the corner we'll be getting ready to enjoy one of the best times of the year (minus snow of course). We all hope everyone has a Merry and Joyous Christmas and may everyone's New Year be Happy.

Tom Farkas, Board of Directors

NOTICE FROM THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE

Residents, please remember that all mulch, gravel, stones, etc. must have a border around them. This is to ensure stones, etc. don't go flying when lawn service is tending to your yards. Additionally, when it rains these items tend to float and sometimes reach the sidewalk or street. Many of our residents exercise by walking along the sidewalks and these items could become a tripping hazard.

Additionally, if you do not have a current Architectural Guideline packet (last updated 9/3/19), please feel free to pick one up in the clubhouse or go to the GAVA website and look under documents (gullairevillage.org). The Architectural Committee tries to answer all requests within 7 days.

I would like to take this time to recognize Jan Freeman, aka Louella Deville, for her outstanding direction of our Murder Mystery Dinner on November 9. The theme “Trailer Park Tragedy” was a tremendous success. The cast, our activities committee, all performed extremely well. Everyone, including the audience, wore fantastic costumes on. I think everyone that attended had a very good time. I would like to thank all for your participation on our first play. For those that did not know it, Lou’s return was a complete surprise for Louella that was arranged by her cast. Again, thank you Jan and her assistant TC.

December is the last month of the year. It is the month of merriment, snow, lights, and gift giving. Wait, nix the snow!

People celebrate the birth of Jesus in many ways. Along with attending the church of your choice, there are many parties and events to attend. Gull Aire Village is doing its part to help with the latter. On the 6th we will have our annual motorcycle and golf cart parade. This year we are combining the two to make this a special event. In addition, this year, one of the regular motorcycle riders is 99 years old and will be celebrating his 100th birthday in January. We will be having a cake for Pops to help him celebrate this great event in his life. Please come on down and vote on the best-decorated golf carts and enjoy the motorcycles. Most of all, to show Pops how much we appreciate his dedication to this annual event.

December will be a fun and gala time for all in Gull Aire Village with the Ornament Exchange on the 7th, Bunco in the 9th, the Christmas Dinner Dance on the 14th, Karaoke on the 7th and 20th, Bingo every Wednesday (hot dogs on the 4th and 8thth), Koffee Klatch on the 7th and 21st and game night on the 28th.

Do not forget, Christmas Caroling will be on the 15th. Come on down and join the group going around the neighborhood bring the sounds of joy to our neighbors. We cannot forget the New Year’s Eve Dance that is planned for you. You will be able to ring in the new year of 2020 by dancing all night with the music of “Sounds of Yesterday”. This group has entertained us previously and we look forward to having them again on New Year’s Eve.

The Gull Aire Village Social Club would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Holiday whether you are spending it with us or traveling to be with relatives.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

She comes to us from Connecticut and is retired. Welcome Donna! Rosemary Webb purchased 299 Tarpon Lane. She is from Coventry, RI and is retired. She has 3 children and ten grandchildren. FYI A committee has been formed to study the options of installing a pool lift to accommodate residents in our community that have a disability or a condition that prevents them from using our beautiful pool. Therefore, this committee is looking into the possibility of making our pool more user friendly. It would be helpful to know the different issues that the committee would need to address during this study. If you have an interest in using a pool lift or have a relative, neighbor or friend that lives in Gull Aire that could utilize the lift, please contact Alice (in the office) @ 785-0643 or text Barbara Drawbaugh @ 727-269-6281

HELP WANTED!!

We are still looking for models and helpers for our “Silly Spring Fashion Show” in February. If you are not sure what type of fashion show this will be, then check out the photos from our last show, on the GAV website, at: gullairevillage.org under Albums.

It was a night of hilarity for both attendees and participants!

There were some inventive and awesome costumes for the Halloween dance, so I know we have very creative (and fun loving) residents in the village. There will be

a meeting, in the near future, to help with ideas.

Be sure to sign up at the clubhouse.

Looking ahead…

I HEARD IT AT THE POOL "I heard that the Tampa Bay Times charges people different subscription rates by neighborhood, even here in Gull-Aire Village. Yet when I call to complain that my delivery subscription went up, they tell me that everybody pays the same. What's the story?" RESEARCH - In a re-visit of this issue from a few years back, it is true that there are at least 6 different rates being billed to GAV residents for 7-day delivery of the TBT newspaper. There are also varying rates for Sunday only delivery and for the Weekender rate (Thurs-Sun). The rate invariably goes up from your previous year's billing although in rare instances the rate does stay the same. The fact is that rates vary for 7-day delivery from a little over $100 per year to over $300 with many prices in-between. And NEVER sign up for AutoPay, for you will be at the mercy of whatever the TBT wants to charge you. See what you are billed and contact the newspaper to complain. Point out what your neighbor pays for the same service. When the TBT tells you we all pay the same, let your subscription expire. If the newspaper has not contacted you in 35 days with a better "offer", contact them and ask for the "new subscriber rate" which is for anyone who has not had the paper delivered for at least 35 days. Many of us enjoy the daily ritual of holding the printed page. Let's face it, when our generation passes on.so will the daily printed newspaper. Unless you're independently wealthy, don't be held up by the TBT in paying outlandish rates for the same delivery your neighbor gets for a lot less!
