Gum disease is inflammation of tissues surroundingthe teeth. It can range from simple inflammation tosevere damage to the bone that supports the teeth.

Gingivitis is mild form of gum disease in which there isonly swelling and redness in gum. But if gingivitis is nottreated in time it can lead to severe bone loss andpocket formation and convert into a disease calledperiodontitis.

HOW IT OCCURS?

•A bio-film is formed on teeth which is called dental plaque.However, if it accumulates on the tooth surface for long period oftime a harder deposit is formed which is called tartar or calculus.

•The bacteria in the bio-film release waste products that causeinflammation in the gum leading to severe bone loss, mobility andloss of teeth subsequently.
