THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

If you have not already, read this out loud, read it with the pause as indicated by the comma. The tenets and doctrine of the Historic Christian Church speak of the covenantal agreements between God and man. A covenant is an agreement; a contract with the right to be accepted or rejected. Within the pages of Holy Scripture God makes an offer to mankind:

One of the first confiscation of weapons was at wounded kneeOver 300 Indian were slaughtered because of their attempt not to become disarmed. Hype and frenzy led to the confrontation that started because some Indian agents had become frightened over the ghost dances.

Indians were forced off their land and most of the time could not muster the arms and ammunition to fight the overpowering American army. Included in this mix, the Indians could not replace the fallen warriors and had no way to replenish their populations. The white man kept coming in droves and with an overpowering and never ending supply of troops. When the Indian fighters were disarmed they were often sent off to reservations where life was miserable and many died either on the way or soon after being forced into a strange and hostile living environment.

Mainstream media and anti-gun folks enter the frenzyThe pro gun folks fear another assault on the right to keep and bear arms.

Panic and frenzy over the mass shootings at Sandy Hook and a shooting at an Oregon Mall have put the politicians and anti-gun crowd into a regulation hyper drive. This group thinks that more laws and regulations will help solve the problem of the evil gripping the land.To date, there are over 20,000 gun laws on the books already. The news media constantly sensationalizes gun related incidents. On January 19, 2013 a common headline in all the major media outlets were worded, Three shot at gun show on gun appreciation day. Only when one reads the sub-headline or reads the article are we told that these were accidental shootings. Distortion and sensationalism abounds in the media.

The true numbersGun crime in Sweden is almost nonexistent and is so rare that the Swedish only bother to compile an annual statistics on gun used in crime. In the United States more than half of all firearms fatalities each year are suicides not homicides of the remaining gun deaths that occur annually in the United States the vast majority we involve criminal shooting other criminals. The gun problem in America in other words is largely a suicide problem and the gang problem.Less than 3% a firearm fatalities are caused by accidents and only a fraction of those involved via adolescent children for more young children drown in swimming pools and die of accidental gunshot wounds.
