Lockdown Special Edition Newsletter: FT SAMACHAR 25 APRIL 2020 Guru Nanak Institute of Technology Department of Food Technology Message from HOD It gives me immense pleasure to talk about the Newsletter of the Dept. of Food Technology of GNIT, which envisages the departmental initiatives during lockdown phase through digital platform. Nitty- gritty: To involve the students and get them acquainted and experienced about another mode of teaching which gives opportunity to continue education system in this period Students are involved in online lecture, assignment, tests, up-dation of project ideas, conceptualization of model designing etc through different types of online platforms. Students are motivated and also participating in Webinars, Workshops and Training programmes conducted by different international and nationally acclaimed industrial personnel that broadens the industrial knowledge and bridges the gap between education and practical world. Under the guidance of faculty members, students are submitting online innovative project proposals in different competitions of national repute and also won prizes (Prakriti, IIT KGP; Smart India Hackathon; etc). A couple of projects got selected for publication in referred/scopus indexed journals which has increased the enthusiasm in students and the Saga continues....... Stay Safe….. Stay at Home….. __________________ Prof(Dr.) Kakali Bandyopadhyay HOD (FT) Message from Principal Life has continued for us, even after the lockdown. GNIT has not witnessed any cessation of academic activities in this phase COVID-19 pandemic situation. I feel extremely happy that the Department of Food Technology (FT) is going to publish this Special Edition Newsletter: FT SAMACHARcontaining conduction of Online classes and all sorts of digital activities they sportingly and enthusiastically did during the ongoing Lockdown period to keep all their Students busy and restricted to Stay at Home for which the Parents/Guardians of the Students also got relaxed that their wards are busy with studies and many other activities on digital Platform. Apart from conduction of digital classes and virtual Labs, they also did a good no. of Webinars, Parent Teacher Meet, Alumni Interaction, Blended Learning and the most interesting Digital Cultural programme. This Special Edition Lockdown News Letter is a reflection of the positive vibes of the FT Dept. Message from HOD

It gives me immense pleasure to talk about the Newsletter of the Dept. of Food Technology of GNIT, which

envisages the departmental initiatives during lockdown

phase through digital platform.

Nitty- gritty:

➢ To involve the students and get them acquainted and experienced about another mode of teaching

which gives opportunity to continue education

system in this period

➢ Students are involved in online lecture,

assignment, tests, up-dation of project ideas,

conceptualization of model designing etc

through different types of online platforms.

➢ Students are motivated and also participating in

Webinars, Workshops and Training

programmes conducted by different international and nationally acclaimed industrial

personnel that broadens the industrial

knowledge and bridges the gap between

education and practical world.

➢ Under the guidance of faculty members, students are submitting online innovative project

proposals in different competitions of national

repute and also won prizes (Prakriti, IIT KGP;

Smart India Hackathon; etc).

➢ A couple of projects got selected for publication in referred/scopus indexed journals which has

increased the enthusiasm in students

and the Saga continues.......

Message from Principal

Life has continued for us, even after the lockdown. GNIT

has not witnessed any cessation of academic activities in this

phase COVID-19 pandemic situation. I feel extremely

happy that the Department of Food Technology (FT) is

going to publish this Special Edition Newsletter:

“FT SAMACHAR” containing conduction of Online

classes and all sorts of digital activities they sportingly and

enthusiastically did during the ongoing Lockdown period to

keep all their Students busy and restricted to Stay at Home

for which the Parents/Guardians of the Students also got

relaxed that their wards are busy with studies and many

other activities on digital Platform. Apart from conduction

of digital classes and virtual Labs, they also did a good no.

of Webinars, Parent Teacher Meet, Alumni Interaction,

Blended Learning and the most interesting Digital Cultural

programme. This Special Edition Lockdown News Letter is

a reflection of the positive vibes of the FT Dept.

I wish that this Newsletter should be distributed to the mass

• One final year project group has published their research work under the guidance of

Dr. Kakali Bandyopadhyay (HOD) & Ms. Shairee Ganguly (Asst. Professor) in a

• There are also some research papers of faculty members are sent in different journals

for publication.

• Mr. Saikat Mazumder has successfully passed the certification exam for “Six Sigma

Yellow Belt”, organized by 6 Sigma Study Targeting Centre.

Motivating students beyond academic:

• Team Food_Healers from Dept. of Food Technology got selected in Smart India

Hackathon 2020 in Hardware Edition.

• Despite this dreadful situation, with the continuous encouragement from departmental

faculties, six students of the department secured 1st and 2nd positions in the online

events (poster presentation) of “Prakriti 2020- Agri and Food innovation Fest”,

organised by IIT Kharagpur, held on 20th to 22nd March, 2020.

• For 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students, separate whatsapp groups are created through

library and e books in both Bengali and English languages of good literature are sent.

• Mental supports are given to the students in the present lockdown situation, through

voice call and whatsapp to get over the frustration.

• Encouraged and motivated students in doing their extra-curricular activities like blog

writing, motivational video, cooking videos etc. for posting in social media.

• Faculties also guide students, how to get e-certificates by doing these extra academic

activities.

Taking feedback from students & their parents about the online teaching process:

• Feedback are taken from students in Google Forms and analysis of the

total feedback report

• Student’s Feedback are taken through telephonic conversation

• Feedback are collected in video mode( both for students and parents)

• Students’ Feedbacks are also collected through Myperpectice.Whiteboard chat

and whatsapp chat after every class.

• Overall feedback from parents is received through Parents-Teachers Meet.

StuDentS’ participation in training, internship, workshop:

• Students have participated in different workshops like 5 Day international workshop

on “Emotional Management” through whatsapp from 31.03.2020 to 04.04.2020

organized by Indian Institute of Mother and Child Welfare.
