Visit of Senior Officer from MoUD for Swachh Bharat Mission

Officers from the Ministry of UrbanDevelopment were recently deputed to 54 million plusDevelopment were recently deputed to 54 million pluscities all across the country to assess the successfulimplementation of Swachh Bharat Mission. Mr. AnandSingh, I.A.S., Director, DE visited Guwahati city on the19th of October, 2015 in this regard. Mr. Singh wasescorted by Dr. Lakshmanan, I.A.S., Joint Commissionerand two other officials of GMC. Mr. Singh visited the e-toilet at Maligaon and was quite impressed by thefunctioning of the automated and highly contemporarye-toilet. He also visited the Modern public toilet at FancyBazar and praised it.

Mr. Singh also scrutinized the SolidWaste Management system of the city and alsoappreciated the efforts of creating innovative techniqueslike In-house composting, Waste to Wealth concept, etc.A brief presentation was made at the head office ofGuwahati Municipal Corporation where Mr. Singh wasfelicitated by the Commissioner and ConservancyChairman, Ms. Ashima Bardoloi with a souvenir and agamosa.. Mr. Singh also made a brief stop at the AssamSecretariat regarding the progress of the State MissionDirectorate on Swachh Bharat Mission.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation wishes everyone ahappy festive time. When the whole of Guwahati had been busycelebrating Durga Puja, GMC officials and workers were deliveringservice so that all Puja pandals and their surroundings remained cleanand free from garbage. GMC had deployed dedicated team for eachzone consisting of senior officials, engineers, office assistants andworkers to ensure that the Durga Puja Pandals remained clean for theconvenience of the citizens. GMC had also undertaken a massive

Sixmile to Narengi by installing energyefficient LED street lights. The project isunique because there will be CCMS anddimming system whereby any fault atany moment of time can be detectedinstantly. Also it will help to reduceenergy cost substantially by reducing theflux density at different point of time.

Sjt. Akon Bora, LocalMLA laid the foundation layingceremony of the project in presence of

convenience of the citizens. GMC had also undertaken a massiveimmersion programme at Kachomari Ghat and Pandu Ghat on BijoyaDashami.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation had also ensured thatthe Immersion Ghats at Kachomari (Fancy Bazar) and Pandu remainedilluminated on the occasion of Bijoya Dashami of Durga Puja. In theKachomari Ghat nearly 100 lights were installed and 70 lights wereinstalled at Pandu ghat. The public and the Local committee membershighly praised the role of Guwahati Municipal Corporation for safeimmersion of nearly 500 idols because of sufficient lighting in both ofthe Ghats.

On the seventh anniversary of 2008 October serialbomb blasts, the Local Government Body of Guwahati city, theGuwahati Municipal Corporation pays homage to the victims of thatblast. May the departed souls who lost their lives in the ground shakingbombings rest in peace. Guwahati Muniicipal Corporation also wisheswell being of the families who had lost their closed ones in the brutalkillings.

After the selection of the office assistants,they were given a comprehensive training ofone week on office procedures andregulations of Guwahati MunicipalCorporation. The office assistants wereposted in different branches, engineeringdivisions and revenue zones of GuwahatiMunicipal Corporation. They have beenassigned a variety of works like computerworks, issue receipts, tax collection, etc.
