1 Safety Precautions Before operating GW-WR151N, read the following precaution information carefully:

Use the type of power that user manual marks. Use the power adapter that is packed within the device package. Pay attention to the power load of the outlet or the prolonged lines. An

overburden power outlet or damaged lines and plugs may cause electric shock or fire accident. Check the power cords regularly. If you find any damage, replace it at once.

Leave proper space for heat dissipation to avoid damage caused by device overheating. Heat dissipation holes enable the device to work normally. Do not cover heat dissipation holes.

Keep the device away from heat outlets, high temperature places, and direct sunlight.

Keep the device in dry places. Do not spill any liquid on this device. Do not connect the device to any PC or electronic product unless our

customer engineer or your broadband provider instructs you to do this, because any wrong connection may cause power or fire risks.

Do not place this device on an unstable surface.

2 Overview

2.1 Product Introduction

GW-WR151N is a high-performance network access device. It is fully compatible with IEEE802.11b, IEEE802.11g and IEEE802.11n standards. It can provide reliable and convenient access service for individual users and SOHO (Small Office, Home Office). It features Web-based GUI, allowing users to easily modify settings to connect the device to ISP (Internet Service Provider) and conveniently perform upgrade using the WEB page.

2.2 Packing list Please check that your packing list includes the following items:

3 Hardware Description and Hardware Installation

3.1 Front Panel and LED Status There are 8 LED indicators on the front panel of GW-WR151N. By observing their status, you can check whether the device runs normally.

The following table describes the status of LED indicators on the front panel. Indicator Color Status Description

Green On Power is on. Power

- Off Power is off or the device is down.

Green On The WLAN connection is in the communication state.

Green Blink Data is being transmitted and received in the WLAN.

WLAN

- Off The WLAN connection is in the non-communication state.

WPS Green On Connection succeeds under WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).

Green Blink Negotiation is in progress under WPS. - Off WPS is disabled. Green On WAN connection succeeds. Green Blink Data is being transmitted. WAN - Off No WAN connection. Green On LAN connection succeeds. Green Blink Data is being transmitted. LAN1/2/3/4 - Off No LAN connection.

3.2 Rear Panel and Interface Description

The following table describes interfaces and buttons on the rear panel. Interface/Button Description

Reset Use a fine needle to press Reset gently for 5 seconds and then release the button. The system reboots and restores to the factory defaults.

PWR Power socket, for connecting the power adapter.

WAN RJ45 WAN interface, for connecting WAN or the uplink network devices.

LAN1/2/3/4 RJ45 LAN interfaces, for connecting hub, switch, or computer in the LAN.

WPS This button is used for enabling the WPS PBC mode. When WPS is enabled, press this button, and the AP starts to accept negotiation of PBC mode.

3.3 Hardware Installation

3.3.1 System Requirements Before installing the device, please ensure that the following items are ready:

At least one Ethernet RJ45 cable (10Base-T/100Base-T) One wireless router A PC is already installed with the TCP/IP protocol and the PC can access

the Internet.

3.3.2 Before You Begin Before you install the device, please pay attention to the following items:

When the device is connected to a computer, hub, router or switch, the Ethernet cable should be less than 100 meters.

Do not place this device on an unstable surface or support. Do not put this device on the ground.

Keep the device clean. Keep it away from direct sunlight. Avoid any metal in the device.

Place the device in the center of the area, and try to optimize the wireless coverage.

3.3.3 Connecting the Device To connect the device, do as follows: Step 1 Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the LAN interface of

GW-WR151N. Step 2 Connect the other end of the RJ45 cable to your PC. Step 3 Connect the power adapter to the power socket of GW-WR151N.

3.4 Operation Range The operation range of the wireless router depends on the actual environment. The path and effect of signal transmission vary with the deployment in a house or an office. For example, the outdoor straight transmission distance for a certain device can be 300 meters and the indoor transmission distance can be 100 meters.

4 Configuring Your Computer and Wireless Connection

4.1 Configuring Your Computer The following takes Windows XP as an example. Do as follows to manually set the network adapter of your computer: Step 4 Right-click the icon of My Network Places and choose Properties to

display the Network Connections window.

Step 5 Right-click the icon of a network interface card or wireless network adapter and choose Properties.

Step 6 Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

Step 7 Set the IP address of your computer to 192.168.1.X (X is an integer in the range of 2 to 254), and the MAC address to 255.255.255.0. Set the gateway and the IP address of the DNS server. You can leave them blank if you do not know information about the gateway and DNS server. Click OK.

Note:

After you finish configuring the GW-WR151N router, the domestic gateway can set the Internet protocol for the PC’s network adapter. Set the IP address and DNS server to Obtain an IP address automatically.

4.2 Configuring Wireless Configuration The following takes Windows XP as an example. Do as follows to connect the wireless network adapter of your PC to GW-WR151N: Step 1 Click the icon displayed at the right bottom corner of the desktop

(Note: Ensure that your PC is installed with a wireless network adapter). Step 2 In the Wireless Network Connection page, double-click the desired

wireless network.

Step 3 Your computer successfully connects to the wireless network when Connected is displayed on the right upper corner.

Note:

The default SSID of the GW-WR151N router is RTL8196C-001.

5 Logging In to the Web Page Run the Internet Explorer (IE), enter http://192.168.1.1/ (the default IP address of the wireless router) in the address bar, and press Enter.

In the displayed window as shown in the following figure, enter the user name and password, and click Login. The default user name and password are admin.

After logging in to the Web page, you can view, configure and modify the router settings. To make the settings and changes take effect, you need to reboot the wireless router sometimes.

Caution:

If you are managing the wireless router through the Web page, do not cut off the power supply. Otherwise, the device may be damaged.

6 Web Configuration

6.1 Status Click Status and the extended navigation menu is shown as follows:

Click the submenu to enter a specific configuration page.

6.1.1 System Information Choose Status > System Information to display the System Information page. In this page, you can view device system information.

6.1.2 LAN Client List Choose Status > LAN Client List to display the LAN Client List page.

This page displays information about clients connecting to the router, including the host name, the IP address, and the MAC address.

6.1.3 LAN Statistics Choose Status > LAN Statistics to display the LAN Statistics page.

This page displays LAN statistic information, including sent bytes, received bytes, sent packets, and received packets.

6.1.4 WAN Connection Status Choose Status > WAN Connections Status to display the WAN Connections Status page.

This page displays information about WAN connection status, including the connection name, the connection type, bitrate/duplex, the IP address/the subnet mask, the status, default gateway, and DNS.

6.1.5 Wireless Connection Status Choose Status > Wireless Connections status to display WLAN Connections status page.

This page displays information about wireless connection status, including the SSID, the MAC address, the group name, and the IP address/the subnet mask.

6.1.6 Wireless Statistics Choose Status > Wireless Statistics to display the Wireless Statistics page.

This page displays the statistic information about VAP connection, including sent bytes, received bytes, sent packets, and received packets.

6.2 Wizard Choose Wizard > Quick Setup to display the Quick Setup page. In this page, you can quickly complete the configuration of connection between a router and the Internet. The wizard helps you to create an Internet connection step by step. Step 1 Configure WAN connection.

WAN connection—DHCP

The following table describes the parameters.

Field Description Service Type The service type can be set to: INTERNET, TR069,

or TR069_ INTERNET. Vendor Class ID Enter the vendor class ID provided by your ISP. MTU Set the maximum transmission unit. The default

value is recommended.

The following table describes the parameters. Field Description

Wireless Security Select Enable to use wireless security authentication. Authentication Set the authentication type.

Open System: If Open System is selected, hosts in the wireless network can pass the authentication and connect to the wireless network without using a password. However, the password is required if you want to transmit data.

Shared Key: If Shared Key is selected, hosts in the wireless network can pass authentication only when the correct password is entered. Otherwise, the hosts cannot connect to the wireless network.

WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK: Preshared key Wi-Fi protection access.

Encryption Strength If Encryption Strength is set to 64 bits, set the key to 10 hexadecimal digits or 5 ASCII characters.

If Encryption Strength is set to 128 bits, set the key to 26 hexadecimal digits or 13 ASCII characters.

Step 4 Check whether the settings consistent with the settings provided by your

ISP. Click Submit to finish quick setup.

6.3 Setup Configuration Click Setup and the extended navigation menu is shown as follows:

Click the submenu to enter a specific configuration page.

6.3.1 LAN Basic Configuration Choose Setup > LAN Basic to display the LAN Basic Configuration page. DHCP refers to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. If Use Device as DHCP Service is selected, GW-WR151N automatically assigns IP addresses to comupters in the LAN. Users do not need to configure TCP/IP protocol paramters such as the IP address, the subnet mask, the gateway, and the DNS server information for computers connected to the router’s LAN.

In this page, you can configure the IP address, DHCP relay, and DHCP server of the LAN group. The following table describes the parameters.

Field Description IP Address Set the LAN IP address.

Mask

Set the LAN subnet mask. Combined with the IP address, the IP subnet mask allows a device to know which other addresses are local to it, and which must be reached through a gateway or router.

Domain Set the domain name of your ISP.

Server and Relay Off

If not selected, you can enable either the DHCP server or DHCP relay. If you do not want to use the DHCP function, select the radio button of Server and Relay Off.

Enable DHCP Relay Enable DHCP relay. Relay IP The IP Address of the DHCP relay server.

Enable DHCP Server

If the radio button is selected, GW-WR151N serves as a DHCP server to automatically assign IP addresses to computers connected to it. By default, Enable DHCP Server is selected.

Start IP(PC)/End IP(PC)

Set the start and end IP addresses to specify a pool of IP addresses to be assigned by the DHCP server. After you set Start IP and End IP, hosts in the LAN obtain IP addresses that are in the range of the start and end IP addresses.

Lease Time

The valid time for an IP address that is automatically assigned by the DHCP server to a host. The DHCP server does not assign the IP address to other hosts within the specified time.

Click Submit to save the settings.

6.3.2 WAN Configuration Choose Setup > WAN to display the WAN Configuration page. WAN (Wide Area Network) Settings are used to connect to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). The WAN settings are provided by your ISP.

Click Add to enter the WAN connection page.

The router supports 6 modes of WAN connection, including DHCP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, and Bridge. Select the WAN connection you use. Contact your ISP if you do not know your WAN connection mode.

6.3.2.1 DHCP (Dynamic IP) If you select dynamic IP (DHCP), GW-WR151N automatically obtains the IP address from the ISP automatically. Select dynamic IP (DHCP) when the ISP does not provide any IP network parameters. See the following figure:

The parameters in this page are described as follows: Field Description

Enable Wan Select the Enable Wan check-box to enable a WAN connection.

Service Type The service type can be set to: INTERNET, TR069, or TR069_INTERNET.

Hostname Enter the hostname provided by your ISP. This field is optional but may be required by some ISPs.

Vendor Class ID Enter the vendor class ID provided by your ISP. MTU Set the maximum transmission unit. The default value

is recommended. Enable 802.1X auth Enable the 802.1X authentication as required by ISP. User Name User name used for 802.1X authentication. Password Password used for 802.1X authentication. Enable Nat Network Address Translation (NAT) determines how

the router processes inbound traffic. Secured NAT provides a secured firewall to protect the computers on the LAN from attacks from the Internet, but might prevent some Internet games, point-to-point applications, or multimedia applications from functioning. Open NAT provides a much less secured firewall, but allows almost all Internet applications to function.

Nat Type Set the NAT type. Two NAT types are available: SymmetricNat and ConeNat.

Domain Name Server Assignment

Auto: Select Auto if your ISP automatically transmits DNS addresses to the router.

Manual: If your ISP does not automatically transmit DNS addresses to the router, enter the DNS IP address provided by your ISP manually. And enter the IP address of your ISP’s primary DNS server, that is, Domain Name Server (Primary) IP). Enter a secondary DNS server address (Domain Name Server (Secondary) IP)

if available. Port Binding You can bind a LAN port to a specific WAN connection,

so that the data from the LAN port can be transmitted through the bound WAN connection.

LAN Port Bind the LAN port. WLAN Port Bind the WLAN port. Enable VLAN Tagging Select the check box to enable VLAN tagging.

6.3.2.2 Static IP If the ISP provides the IP address, subnet mask, and information about the gateway and DNS server, select Static IP. Contact your ISP if you do not know the information.

The parameters in this page are described as follows: Field Description

Enable Wan Select the Enable Wan check-box to enable a WAN connection.

Service Type The service type can be set to: INTERNET, TR069, or TR069_INTERNET.

IP address Enter the WAN IP address provided by the ISP. The parameter must be entered.

Subnet mask Enter the WAN subnet mask provided by the ISP. It varies with the network type. It is usually 255.255.255.0 (Class C).

Default Gateway IP Enter the IP address of the gateway provided by the ISP. It is the IP address used for connecting to the ISP.

MTU Set the maximum transmission unit. The default value is recommended.

Enable 802.1X auth Enable the 802.1X authentication as required by ISP. User Name User name used for 802.1X authentication. Password Password used for 802.1X authentication. Enable Nat Network Address Translation (NAT) determines how

6.3.2.3 PPPoE If the ISP provides the user name and password for PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) dialup, select PPPoE.

The parameters in this page are described as follows: Field Description

PPPoE Account Enter the user name for PPPoE dialup provided by the ISP. This parameter must be entered.

PPPoE Password Enter the password for PPPoE dialup provided by the ISP. This parameter must be entered.

Confirm Password Enter the password again to confirm it. Authentication Method You can set the authentication method to AUTO,

PAP, CHAP, and MS-CHAP. MTU Set the maximum transmission unit. The default

value is recommended. Dial Type Set the dial type.

Always On: If you select it, the system automatically establishes a connection. If GW-WR151N is disconnected from the network because of external factors when you are using the Internet access service, the system attempts connection in an interval of the specified time (for example, 10 seconds) until the connection is established. If you pay for Internet access monthly, we recommend you to use this connection mode.

On Demand: If you select it, the system automatically establishes a connection when a network access request from the LAN is received. If no network access request is sent from the LAN within the specified time of Idle Timeout, the system automatically interrupts the connection. If you pay for Internet access by time, you are recommended to use this connection mode, which effectively saves the expense of Internet access.

Auto: Select Auto if your ISP automatically transmits DNS addresses to the router.

Manual: If your ISP does not automatically transmit DNS addresses to the router, enter the DNS IP address provided by your ISP manually. And enter the IP address of your ISP’s primary DNS server, that is, Domain Name Server (Primary) IP). Enter a secondary DNS server address (Domain Name Server (Secondary) IP) if available.

Port Binding You can bind a LAN port to a specific WAN connection, so that the data from the LAN port can be transmitted through the bound WAN connection.

LAN Port Bind the LAN port. WLAN Port Bind the WLAN port. Enable VLAN Tagging Select the check box to enable VLAN tagging.

IPSEC/PPTP/L2TP Pass-Through provides a secure communication method for remote computers in the wide area network (WAN) (for example, the Internet). Enable the corresponding VPN pass-through function if an intra-network host needs to use a VPN protocol (such as the PPTP, L2TP, IPSEC) to connect to a remote VPN network through the router. After finishing the settings, click the Submit button to apply the settings.

6.4.2 DHCP Filter Choose Advanced > DHCP Filter to display the DHCP Filter Configuration page.

In this page, you can enable the DHCP filter. If you want the DHCP filter to take effect, you need to reboot the device.

Black List: To prevent data that complies with the rule in the MAC list from passing through.

White List: To allow data that complies with the rule in the MAC list to pass through only.

Enter MAC address of the LAN side in the text field and click Add to add the address to the list. The format of MAC address is xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (x is a hexadecimal value ranging from 0~9 or A~F).

6.4.3 Parents Control

6.4.3.1 MAC Filter Choose Advanced > Parents Control > MAC Filter to display the MAC Filter Configuration page.

The default MAC filtering mode is the black list mode. To add an MAC address into the MAC list: Step 5 Select the Enable MAC Filter check box. Step 6 Enter an MAC address in the MAC Address field. The format of MAC

6.4.9 Access Control Choose Advanced > Access Control > Remote Access Control to display the Remote Access Control Configuration page. In this page, you can configure whether to allow a specified remote host to access the Web and Telnet services in the system through a specified service port. By default, remote access to the Web and Telnet services is disabled.

6.4.10 IGMP

6.4.10.1 IGMP Proxy Choose Advanced > IGMP > IGMP Proxy to display the IGMP Proxy Configuration page.

The IGMP Proxying function lets a LAN PC receive the multicast traffic it is interested in from the Internet. If you do not need this function, you can clear the Enable IGMP Proxy check box to disable this function. After finishing the settings, click the Submit button to apply the settings.

6.4.10.2 IGMP Snooping IGMP Snooping is used for multicast management and control. When the Ethernet switch of the second layer receives the IGMP packets transmitted between the host and AP, IGMP Snooping will analyze the packets to establish and maintain the address table of the MAC multicast, and then the routing multicast packets will be transmitted according to the address table of the MAC multicast. Choose Advanced > IGMP > IGMP Snooping to display the IGMP Snooping Configuration page.

In this page, you can enable or disable the IGMP Snooping function. If you disable the IGMP snooping, the multicast packets will be broadcast in the second layer. After finishing the settings, click the Submit button to apply the settings.

Note:

The IGMP snooping is enabled only in the bridge mode.

When IGMP Snooping is disabled, the multicast packets are transmitted to the each interface of the bridge.

After enabling the IGMP Snooping, the multicast packets are only transmitted to the member interfaces of the group.

6.4.11 UPnP Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) helps devices, such as Internet appliances and computers, to access the network and connect to other devices as needed. Users do not need to manually configure port forwarding for applications. For example, if MSN Messenger is installed on Windows ME and Windows XP operating systems, UPnP can be used for audio and video conversations. In this way, functions restricted by NAT can work properly. Choose Advanced > UPnP to display the UPnP Configuration page.

In this page, you can enable or disable the UPnP function, and set the WAN interface. You can also configure the UPnP blacklist. The IP addresses in the blacklist can not use the UPnP function.

6.4.12 SNTP Choose Advanced > SNTP to display the SNTP Configuration page.

Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) can provide the time synchronization function for AP. The parameters in the page are described as follows:

Field Description Status Display the status of time synchronization. Primary Server The IP address or the domain name of the primary

server. Second Server The IP address or the domain name of the primary

server. Update Interval Set the synchronization interval between AP and the

time server. Retry Interval Set the interval for the AP to try to connect the time

server after the AP fails to synchronize with the time server.

Time Zone Select your local time zone, Daylight Savings Used After enabling this function, set the time of Daylight

Savings Start and Daylight Savings End.

6.4.13 DMZ DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), a special network zone that is different from the external network or the internal network. The servers that are allowed to access the external network, such as Web and e-mail, connect to the DMZ. The internal network is protected behind the Trust Zone interface, and is not allowed any user to access. Therefore, the internal and external networks are separated, which can meet user’s secrecy demand. Usually, there are some public servers in DMZ, such as Web, Mail, and FTP. Users from the external network can access the services in DMZ, but can not obtain the company’s secret information or personal information that is stored on the internal network. Even though the servers in the DMZ are damaged, it does not cause secret information loss on the internal network.

Choose Advanced > DMZ to display the DMZ Configuration page.

In this page, you can configure the DMZ host for the appointed WAN connection. The parameters of the DMZ Setting page are described as follows:

Field Description WAN Connection Select the WAN connection for DMZ configuration.Enable DMZ Enable or disable the DMZ function. Host Address Enter the IP address of a computer or server to be

set as a DNZ host.

Warning:

When PC on the internal network is set to be the DMZ host, all the interfaces of the PC will be exposed to the Internet and the PC will risk great security. Unless necessary, please do not set the DMZ casually.

After setting the DMZ host, the mappings of all the interfaces will point to DMZ host and the port mappings that points to other hosts will be invalid.

6.4.14 DDNS Dynamic DNS (DDNS) is mainly used to realize resolution between fixed domain names and dynamic IP addresses. For a user that uses a dynamic IP address, after the user obtains a new IP address when accessing to the Internet, the dynamic domain name software installed in the host sends the IP address to the dynamic domain name resolution server provided by the DDNS service provider and updates the domain name resolution database. When another user on the

Internet tries accessing the domain name, the dynamic domain name resolution server returns the correct IP address. Choose Advanced > DDNS to display the DDNS Configuration page.

Mode Select the wireless mode. 802.11 BGN is recommended.

Band Width The bandwidth occupied for wireless signal transmission.

Rate The transmission rate of GW-WR151N. Power The default value is 100%. You can select it from the

drop-down list: Current Country Select the region where you are located. Channel The channel for transmitting wireless signals. The

default channel is Auto. When you select Auto, GW-WR151N automatically selects the best channel from the available channels according to actual situations.

After finishing the settings, click the Submit button to apply the settings.

6.5.2 SSID Configuration If you do not want visitors to know your wireless security key, you can use the SSID configured in this page to allow them to use your Internet without knowing your wireless connection password. Choose Wireless > SSID to display the SSID Configuration page.

SSID Set the SSID for the VAP. Hide SSID If enabled, GW-WR151N will not broadcast its SSID

to wireless stations. Internal SSID Isolate If selected, clients connected to the network of this

SSID can access the Internet only but cannot communicate with other wireless clients or Ethernet clients.

Wireless Security Set the security encryption of the wireless network, to prevent unauthorized access and listening.

After enabling the encryption function, you can configure parameters for different authentication modes.

- Open System or Shared Key When selecting the authentication mode as Open System or Shared Key, the parameters on the VAP Configuration page are displayed as below:

The parameters for Open System or Shared Key mode are described as follows:

Field Description Authentication Open System: If Open System is selected, hosts in

the wireless network can pass the authentication and connect to the wireless network without using a password. However, the password is required if you want to transmit data.

Shared Key: If Shared Key is selected, hosts in the wireless network can pass authentication only when the correct password is entered. Otherwise, the hosts cannot connect to the wireless network.

Encryption Strength If Encryption Strength is set to 64 bits, set the key

to 10 hexadecimal digits or 5 ASCII characters.

On the Advanced Configuration page, you can set some advanced parameters, including the beacon interval, the RTS/CTS threshold, and the fragment length. The parameters of the Advanced Configuration page are described as follows:

Field Description

Beacon Interval The beacon interval is the frequency of sending Beacon frames.

RTS/CTS Threshold Set the CTS/RTS threshold. If the length of a packet is greater than the specified RTS value, GW-WR151N sends an RTS frame to the destination station to negotiate. After receiving an RTS frame, the wireless station responds with a Clear to Send (CTS) frame to GW-WR151N, notifying that they can communicate with each other.

Fragment Length Set the threshold of fragmentation length. If the length of a packet exceeds the set value, the packet is automatically fragmented into several packets. The value of Fragmentation Length cannot be too

SSID Isolate If selected, clients connected to the network of this SSID can access the Internet only but cannot communicate with other wireless clients or Ethernet clients.

Enable WMM Enable or disable Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM). WMM Power Save Whether to enable the WMM Power Save mode.

DTIM Delivery Traffic Indication Message. Set the interval for sending DTIM frames.

6.5.4 Wireless Repeater Wireless distribution system (WDS) enables interconnection between APs in an IEEE 802.11 wireless network. It extends the wireless network through several APs, without connection of wired backbone network. This function is also called wireless repeating or bridging. Choose Wireless > Repeater and the Repeater Configuration page is displayed.

6.5.4.1 Configuring the Wireless Basic Station

To configure the router as the wireless basic station: Step 1 Select the Enable Wireless Repeating Function check box and select

the Basic Station Mode radio button. Step 2 Set related parameters in this page.

Disable Wireless Clients Association: If selected, the wireless basic station does not transmit any signals to clients that are directly connected to it.

Repeater MAC Address 1/2/3/4: Enter the MAC address of the router that works as the repeater for the wireless basic station.

Step 3 Click Submit to save your settings.

Note:

A wireless basic station can be configured with up to four repeaters.

6.5.4.2 Configuring the Repeater

To configure a router as the repeater: Step 1 Select Repeater Function under Wireless Setup in the main menu.

The Wireless Repeater page is displayed. Select the Enable Wireless Repeating Function check box and select the Wireless Repeater radio button.

Step 2 Set related parameters in this page. Disable Wireless Clients Association: If selected, the repeater does not

transmit any signals to clients that are connected to it. Generally, clear this check box.

Repeater IP Address: Set the repeater’s IP address different from the wireless basic station and other repeaters to avoid IP address conflict. We suggest setting IP addresses of the same network segment for the wireless basic station and repeaters.

Basic Station MAC Address: Enter the MAC address of the wireless basic station.

Step 3 Click Submit to save your settings.

Restore Defaults After clicking the button, some parameters of GW-WR151N will return to the factory defaults, but the key settings including WAN configuration, SNMP configuration, and TR069 configuration will remain.

Restart After clicking the button, GW-WR151N will reboot. User Session Timeout Set the WEB page timeout interval. After the specified

time times out, you need to log in to the Web again. After finishing the settings, click the Submit button to apply the settings.

6.6.2 User Management Choose Management > User Management to display the User Management page.

Two user levels are provided: admin and operator. To change the user name and password, click Edit. To delete a user name of the Operator user level, click Delete.

6.6.3 Diagnosis

6.6.3.1 Ping Diagnosis Choose Management > Diagnosis > Ping Diagnosis to display the Ping Diagnosis page.

Number of Packets Repeat The number of ping packets. Timeout (ms) Set the period after which a ping packet times out.

When the specified time times out, the ping request stops.

Packet Size The length of the ping packet.

After finishing the settings, click the Ping…button, the result of ping diagnosis is displayed in the page. Click Stop…button to stop to ping diagnosis.

6.6.3.2 Traceroute Diagnosis You can use traceroute diagnosis to check the status of network connection to a host and help diagnose network faults. Choose Management > Diagnosis > Traceroute Diagnosis to display the Ping Diagnosis page.

6.6.4 TR069 Configuration TR-069, one of the technology specifications, comes from Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Forum, whose full name is "CPE WAN Management Protocol (CWMP)". TR069 defines the general frame and the protocol for broadband gateway to realize the remote management and configuration, which is used for the gateway to support remote centralized management from the LAN side. The basic features of the TR-069 are:

Automatic configuration for devices and dynamic services Software and hardware upgrade Device status and performance monitoring

Choose Management > TR069 Configuration to display the TR069 Configuration page.

URL The TR069 Server Address. Username The username for accessing the TR069 server. Password The password for accessing the TR069 server. Enable Interval Inform If selected, the system will notify users on an

occurrence of interruption. Inform Interval The interval for reconnecting the TR069 server. Connection Request Username

The username for the TR069 server accessing the AP.

Connection Request Password

The password for the TR069 server accessing the device.

The configuration procedures are as follows: Step 1 Modify the URL value according to the ACS (Auto Configuration Server)

URL that is provided by the ISP. Step 2 In order to connect the ACS, you need to enter the username and the

password provided by the ISP.

Step 3 Enable Inform Interval and enter the proper interval. After finishing the parameters settings, click the Submit button. CPE automatically connects to the ACS.

Step 4 If you allow the ACS actively to connect to your RG (Residential Gateway Group), you can enter the corresponding authentication information in the fields of the Connection Request Username and the Connection Request Password. Then the RG uses the two values to authenticate the ACS.

Step 5 Click the Submit button to temporarily activate the configuration.

6.6.5 Configuration Upgrade The Save to Local and Upgrade options in the Config File Upgrade page let you save and retrieve a file containing your router’s configuration settings. Choose Management > Config Upgrade to display the Config File Upgrade page.

In this page, you can export configuration information of the router to the computer for later use, and import a previously saved or a new configuration file.

To save your settings Click Save to Local and save the configuration file to your local computer.

Note:

Before saving your configuration file, change the administrator password to the default (admin) in case you forget your password. Then change it again after you have saved the configuration file. If you forget the password, you will need to reset the configuration to factory defaults.

To restore your settings from a saved configuration file Click Browse… to select a configuration file saved in your computer and click Upgrade to load the file to the router. The router then reboots automatically.

6.6.6 Firmware Upgrade Choose Management > Firmware Update to display the IMG File Upgrade page.

To upgrade the software of the router: Step 1 Click Browse… and locate the latest software that you downloaded to

your computer. Step 2 Select the correct upgrade file.

– Clear Config: If selected, the router restores to the default settings after upgrade is finished. If not selected, the current settings remain.

– Clear Log: If selected, log information will be cleared after upgrade is finished.

Step 3 Click Upload to start upgrade. After the upgrade is completed, the router automatically reboots.

6.6.7 Log Configuration Choose Management > Log Configuration to display the Log Configuration page.

To enable Log: Select the Enable Log check box and enter the IP address of the TFTP server.

Upload Log File: Click Upload Log File to upload the log file of router system events to the corresponding TFTP sever.

Clear Log File: Click Clear Log File to clear logs of router system events. Download Log File: Click Download Log File to download logs of router

system events to the local PC. To enable remote log: Select the Enable Remote Log check box and enter the IP address of the remote log server. Then, debugging logs in the router are uploaded to the log server

6.6.8 Log View Choose Management > Log View to display the Log View page.

7 Troubleshooting Failure to configure the router through a web browser

(1) Open the Web browser (for example, IE) and choose Tools > Internet Options from the main menu.

(2) Click Delete Cookies and Delete Files.

Failure to establish wireless network connection Because the router is beyond the wireless coverage.

(1) Place the router near the customer premises equipment (CPE). (2) Try modifying the channel setting.

Because of authentication problems.

(1) Use a computer of wired connection to connect the router. (2) Check the network security settings. (3) Try hard reset on the router.

Because the router cannot be detected. (1) Try hard reset on the router and test again. (2) Check the settings of the wireless network. (3) Check the settings of SSID and encryption.

Failure to connect to the Internet through the wireless router (1) Place the router to the wireless area where the CPE can connect. (2) Check whether the wireless network card connects to the correct AP (base

station). (3) Check whether the wireless channel accords with the channel specified in your

country or region. (4) Check the encryption settings. (5) Check whether your ADSL cable is connected to the correct network interfaces. (6) Replace with a new network cable to connect to the router.

Failure to access the Internet (1) Check whether the status of indicators on the ADSL modem and the wireless

router is normal. (2) Check whether the WAN indicator is on. If the WAN indicator is off, check

whether the cable connected to the WAN interface is loose. (3) When the Link indicator keeps on but does not blink, the router is connected to

the Internet. (4) Reboot your computer. (5) Set the AP again. (6) Check whether the WAN indicator is on. (7) Check the encryption settings of the wireless network. (8) Check whether the PC that connects to the router can obtain the IP address

through either the wireless network or the cable network. (9) Check the LAN settings of your Internet options, and do not use a proxy server

for your LAN. See the following figure:
