    OWNERS MANUAL

Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of the Crate GX-1200H guitar amplifier. This rugged

amp head combines outstanding features with serious clean and distorted sounds.Channel selection, Crates exclusive Shape circuit, and reverb on/off are controllable by

the supplied three-button footswitch. An insert jack allows virtually noise-free connectionof your favorite effects.

Like all Crate products, your GX-1200H is Musician Made in the U.S.A., using onlythe best components. Extensive testing at the hands (and ears) of skilled techniciansand musicians insures you that this amplifier is the absolute best it can be.

In order to get the most out of your new amplifier, we strongly urge you to go overthe information contained in this manual before you begin playing.

    And thank youfor choosing

1: INPUT: Connect your guitar here using ashielded instrument cable.

OVERDRIVE CHANNEL: A high gain channelgiving you sounds from a slight edge to seriousoverdrive.

2: GAIN 1: When active, sets the amount ofcompression and distortion from the amplifier. Atfar left, the sound will have a thick compressedquality. As you turn the control to the right theamount of distortion increases. Gain 1 producesless intense distortion than Gain 2 and is activeonly when the Gain Select switch (#5) is out.

3: GAIN 2: When active, sets the amount ofcompression and distortion from the amplifier. Atfar left, the sound will have a thick compressedquality. As you turn the control to the right theamount of distortion increases. Gain 2 producesmore intense distortion than Gain 1 and is activeonly when the Gain Select switch (#5) is in.

4: SHAPE: Working in conjunction with the Gain2 control, rotate the Shape control until you findthe sound youre looking for. Turning the controltowards the left enhances the mid frequencies;turning it to the right enhances the low and highfrequencies. (Only affects Gain 2 when active.)

5: GAIN SELECT: Switches between Gain 1(out) and Gain 2 (in). A footswitch (#21) over-rides this switch.

6: LOW: Adjusts the low frequency output level:to the left reduces the low frequency output; tothe right increases it. This control allows a rangeof 11dB at 80Hz.

7: HIGH: Adjusts the high frequency outputlevel: to the left reduces the high frequency out-put, to the right increases it. This control allowsa range of 10dB at 10kHz.

8: LEVEL: Sets the output volume level from theOverdrive Channel: in the far-left position thereis no output; turning the control to the rightincreases the output. Use this control along withthe Gain and Shape controls (#2, 3 & 4) to cre-ate a wide variety of sounds.

9: CHANNEL SELECT: When this switch ispressed in the Overdrive Channel is engaged. The Clean Channel is selected when this switchis out. A footswitch (#21) overrides this switch. The adjacent LEDs indicate which channel isselected.

CLEAN CHANNEL: A normal gain channel

designed to give you crystal clear sounds.

10: LEVEL: Sets the output volume level fromthe Clean Channel: in the far-left position thereis no output; turning the control to the rightincreases the output level.

11: LOW: Adjusts the low frequency outputlevel: to the left reduces the low frequency out-put; to the right increases it. This control allowsa range of 22dB at 80Hz.

12: MID: Adjusts the mid frequency output level:to the left reduces the midrange output; turningit to the right increases it. This control allows a

range of 14dB at 600Hz.13: HIGH: Adjusts the high frequency outputlevel: to the left reduces the high frequency out-put; to the right increases it. This control allowsa range of 28dB at 10kHz.

14: REVERB LEVEL: Adjust the amount ofreverberation with this control: in the full-leftposition the output signal is dry (no reverb);rotating the control to the right increases theamount of reverb. Reverb can be turned on andoff with a footswitch (#22).

15: INSERT: Connect an external effects devicevia this jack. Use a stereo 1/4 male Y-cord: ring= send, tip = return, sleeve = ground. See theillustration on the panel to the right for moreinformation

16: POWER ON LED: Lights when the amplifieris turned on.

17: POWER SWITCH: Turns the amplifier ON inthe up position, off in the down position.

    18. POWER CORD (rear panel, not shown):Your GX-1200H is equipped with a heavy-dutygrounded three-wire power cord. Be sure thiscord is properly plugged into a safely wiredgrounded 120 volt, 60Hz AC power outlet beforeuse. (If your GX-1200H was purchased outsidethe United States, refer to the rear panel forpower ratings.) For your safety, never attempt todefeat the ground connection on this cord.

19: SPEAKER JACKS (rear panel, notshown): Use these 1/4 output jacks to connectthe amplifier to your speaker cabinet(s). Useheavy gauge speaker cables. The GX-1200Hcan operate into speaker loads as low as 4ohms.

20: FUSE (rear panel, not shown): Protects

the amplifier against damages caused from afaulty AC power source or other problems. If thefuse blows, replace it ONLY with the same sizeand type fuse. If the fuse blows repeatedlycheck the AC source; if its okay, contact yourCrate dealer for service information.

21: CHANNEL SELECT / GAIN FOOTSWITCHJACK (rear panel, not shown): Connect the stereo1/4 plug of the supplied three-button footswitch herefor remote control of the Channel Select and GainSelect settings.

22: REVERB FOOTSWITCH JACK (rear panel, not shown): Connect the mono 1/4 plug of the sup-plied three-button footswitch here for remote controlof the reverb on and off.

    Connecting to the Insert jack:

The Insert jack (#15) lets you patch externaleffects into the amplifier just prior to its poweramp stage. Use Crates STP201, STP202 orSTP203 stereo-to-mono Y-cord or an adaptersuch as Crates YPP117 and 2 1/4 mono signalcables to connect to the effect as shown below.
