Chamber Christmas Open House
Chamber members were invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Christmas Open House for our Toys for Tots campaign.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to fill to overflowing TWO toy boxes this year!
On Monday, December 3rd, Rankin County Chamber opened its doors to host the annual Christmas Open House. Over 250 chamber members enjoyed fun, food and networking. Our sincere thanks goes to the Event Committee and to our member restaurants and businesses who graciously donated items to make this year's Open House such a tremendous success!
Visitors enjoyed live music provided by John De La Fuente.
Thank you!

Here are some tips to help you dust off and sharpen your networking skills in 2013:
Networking can be learned•Learning how to network is kind of like learning how to swim. It can be scary and unnatural at first, but with practice and time, networking becomes easier and even enjoyable!
Useyournetworktofindamentor•Think about people you know and respect and approach one of these individuals to act as a professional advisor to you. Explain why you admire them and what you hope to learn from them.
Cultivate these relationships in your network now because many mentors have opened doors for their younger mentees. And remember, you’ll want to be receptive to mentoring others down the road!
Networking is everywhere•You never know who you’ll end up meeting each day, so remember to always be polite to the new people you meet (and try to ask them a few get-to-know-you questions if the opportunity arises).
Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community and expand your network at the same time. Focus on organizations that are aligned with both your personal and professional interests.
Networking requires homework•If you are introduced to a new connection, make sure you do your homework before making contact. Know what they do and what makes them tick. Do you see something that sparks an instant connection between you and this person?
Your goal is to know who you’ll be talking with, and in many cases, these pre-determined points of similarity will make you more memorable to your new contact.
Networking is a two-way street•The most important thing to remember about networking is that it’s a reciprocal act. View networking as what you can do for others, not what you’ll get out of it. The more you help others, the more assistance and value you’ll gain from these contacts in the future.
Get into the habit of asking others what they need, and many times, you will be asked the same question in return.
