COLLECTIVE MEMORY.

Oral history is the recording, preservation and interpretation of information based on experiences and opinions of the speaker.

We find this relating to us because many of the happenings seem to have passed by the word of mouth mode.

Collective memory is shared remembrance developed throughout time.

It is memory that is passed on from generation to generation

The narratives we have got, have very common baseline. People starts relating to incidents

of past and their present happenings to a re-occurring phenomena for over generations.

During the initial interviews we had people saying that many people were killed in the communal riots of 1942 and 1992 riots.

They claimed that the killed were buried beneath the building.

We had a common finding that people relating to the riots that happened during 1942 and 1992 to their woes and later denying them.

The denials came in the form that they did not know what happened in 1942 and that they were safe in 1992.

The fact the Kurla area faced a lot of turbulence during the communal riots of 1992 and undeniable.

To get as many people as possible to speak on their experiences.

To get to know the past of the person sharing his experience as precisely as possible.

To try and analyze as to how many people actually claim to have seen things and how many have just heard them.
