City of Wheat Ridge Receives Re- Accreditation for Parks and Recreation The City of Wheat Ridge remains in the ranks of elite park and recreation agencies across the country by earning re- accreditation through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). This distinguished accomplishment was awarded during the 2021 NRPA Annual Conference. CAPRA accreditation is the only national accreditation for park and recreation agencies and is a measure of an agency’s overall quality of operation, management, and service to the community. This mark of distinction indicates that an agency has met rigorous standards related to the management and administration of lands, facilities, resources, programs, safety and services. Read more Hazardous Tree Grant Program The City of Wheat Ridge Hazardous Tree Removal Grant Program opens for applications on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 7 a.m.. Applications will close on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 5 p.m. Applications will be considered in the order that they are received and qualifying applicants will be notified by phone to schedule an assessment. If selected, a City Forester will conduct an assessment of the tree within two weeks. Following the assessment, qualifying applicants must immediately seek removal by a City approved arborist. Receipt for completed tree removal must be submitted to the City of Wheat Ridge by the end of 2021. SCL Lutheran Legacy Campus Master Planning Process Continues The SCL Lutheran Legacy Campus Master Planning process, a partnership between the City and SCL Health, continues with public meetings planned through October of this year. Thursday, October 7 – Planning Commission Public Hearing (Hybrid Meeting) The master plan is proposed to be adopted as an amendment to the City’s comprehensive plan(External link), A public hearing will be held in City Council Chambers at 7500 W. 29th Ave. at 7 p.m. Monday, October 25 – City Council Public Hearing (Hybrid Meeting) The City Council will also hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers and will be asked to approve a resolution to adopt the master plan. Also check out TheLutheranLegacy.org Wadsworth Improvement Project Breaks Ground On Tuesday, Oct. 12, the City takes the first symbolic step with the Wadsworth Improvement Project with a groundbreaking at 7575 W. 44th Ave. at 10 a.m. The public is invited. A Public Meeting is scheduled at City Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. City staff and project partners including the contractor, will be on hand to answer questions in an open house format. This project includes modernizing and improving Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to I-70 with efficient and safe intersection designs, safer entrances and exits for vehicles accessing businesses, and a continuous sidewalk on the west side and a bike/pedestrian path on the east side of Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to the Clear Creek Trail. Concrete Works of Colorado was awarded the project and anticipates starting construction in mid-October. The first phase of work involves demolition and grading activity adjacent to southbound Wadsworth in order to pave temporary roadways. Once temporary roadways are paved, all traffic will shift to the west side of the road in order to construct the new northbound lanes and improvements along the east side of Wadsworth. Business access and two lanes in each direction will be maintained throughout construction. Overnight and infrequent off-peak lane closures are expected. There is also a plan to address any potential traffic concerns within neighborhoods. Schedule and traffic impact information will be updated weekly and posted on the project web page https://bit.ly/WRWadsworthProject. National Drug Take Back WRPD is hosting National Drug Take Back on Sat. Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the front entrance of SCL Lutheran Medical Center. Clean out the medicine cabinets and get rid of unused, un-needed, and expired pills and patches that otherwise could fall into the hands of a child or otherwise be misused. Items that cannot be accepted include liquids, needles or sharps. Sustainable WR Partners with Fresh Food Connect This Fall Sustainable Wheat Ridge is partnering with Fresh Food Connect again this year to connect local gardeners with those in need of food in the Wheat Ridge community. Fresh Food Connect’s mobile app coordinates the donations of home grown produce to local non-profit organizations like Family Tree. Gardeners sign up via Fresh Food Connect’s mobile app and indicate when they have extra produce. Family Tree will appear automatically as the Wheat Ridge option when gardeners type in 80033. Gardeners then list what they are donating and upload a photo and then deliver their produce to Family Tree during the times listed. Family Tree will distribute to people living in their domestic violence shelter and/or to people experiencing homelessness who are receiving support services.
