H. D. Pyles, deputy ch ie f o f the U. S. Forest Service, w ill take part in a

panel discussion o f land management at a fo restry conference slated Oct. 10 and

Pyles was born in South A fr ica and educated at the U niversity o f C aliforn ia .

Since jo in ing the USFS in 1933* he has served in s ta f f position s in engineering,

fire control and watershed management on national, fo res ts in C aliforn ia and has

headed information and education a c t iv it ie s in the nine states o f the Central

Region. He took his present post in Washington, D. C., in 1962.
