4-H’ers for 4-H
Funding for the
Future The Iowa 4-H’ers for 4-H Cam-
paign is a fundraising program
created by 4-H’ers for 4-H’ers.
The money donated by 4-H’ers stays in Iowa to help
other youth. Iowa 4-H’ers donate more money to their
4-H youth program than any other state in the
nation.
The theme this year is 30K For 30 Years and the cam-
paign goal is $30,3030.30. The State 4-H Council is
asking each 4-H club to help achieve this goal by do-
nating $3.00 per member. The money raised goes to
partially fund volunteer leaders and 4-H after school
programs, the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, and finan-
cial assistance for youth to attend 4-H camps and
state conference. Thank you for your participation
and continuing support of the 4-H program in Iowa!
4-H’ers for 4-H money is due to the Extension
Office by May 15.
Last year several Washington clubs met the do-
nation goal: Green Acres, Horse & Pony, Jack-
son Jets, Limecreek Limelights and Washington
Hustlers.
Thank you for your donations and representing
Washington County 4-H in such positive ways!
College-bound Iowa youth active in 4-H and/or FFA livestock projects and current un-
dergraduate students may apply for $97,000 in scholarships available from the Iowa
Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA).
The scholarships are available to freshmen entering any Iowa two- or four-year post-
secondary institution this fall or current undergraduates attending Iowa State Universi-
ty. Applicants must major in animal science or a curriculum in agriculture or human
sciences that is related to the animal industry. Winners will be announced during the Iowa State Fair annual 4-
H/FFA Sale of Champions on August 20, an event sponsored by IFAA. IFAA scholarship funds come from a per-
centage of Sale of Champions proceeds, as well as Winner’s Circle Club donations.
Incoming freshmen scholarships must be postmarked by May 1. The application is available at
http://www.iowastatefair.org/competition/sale-of-champions/winners-circle-scholarships/
The Washington County Master Gardeners are offering a $500 scholarship to anyone pursuing a horticulture related
degree or certificate from a college or university in the state of Iowa. Anyone is eligible whether in or out of high school.
Applications are due April 15 to the Extension Office. For more information contact Nancy Adrian, 319-653-4811.
Most 4-H projects ask
about money invested.
Make sure to keep receipts
and record costs as you
are working on those fair
projects to make record
books easier!

National Volunteer Week
April 10-16, 2016
The Washington County and Iowa 4-H program simply would not exist without vol-
unteers! We encourage you to find a special way to thank the volunteers who are
positively impacting your 4-H experience. Volunteers in the 4-H program include
leaders, Youth Committee, Extension Council, superintendents, project leaders,
chaperones, parents, and more!
** Send a handwritten thank you note to a volunteer. **Bake a plate of cookies for your club leader.
** Write a letter to the editor about a 4-H volunteer who has had a positive influence on your life.
Mentoring Clover Kids The Clover Kids are the future of 4-H. To help them learn
more about projects, your help is needed. This is also a great
opportunity for you to build your leadership and communica-
tion skills. We have several needs for mentors. Contact Amy if
interested in this leadership experience!
Sheep & Goat Mentoring: You must have a minimum of one year of experience exhibiting
sheep. You will have a Clover Kid assigned to you. You will
meet with them a minimum of three times to share your
knowledge of the sheep/goat project. Following the 4-H & FFA
Sheep/Goat Show at the fair, your Clover Kid will exhibit one
of your projects with your guidance in the ring.
Clothing Event: You must have a minimum of one year of experience in the
Clothing Event. You will be paired up with a 2nd or 3rd grade
Clover Kid. You will meet with your Clover Kid one to two
times prior to judging to discuss their outfit, how to speak with
a judge, and learn about design elements. As a 4-H’er you will
go with the Clover Kid to judging.
Rabbit: You must have a minimum of one year of experience exhibiting
rabbit. You will have a Clover Kid assigned to you. You will
visit with them prior to their ‘Clover Kid Rabbit Show’
Wednesday afternoon of the fair. Teach them how to hold the
rabbit and then your Clover Kid will exhibit one of your pro-
jects with your guidance at the show table.
Pancake Breakfast Help
A lot of help is still needed for the Pancake Breakfast on
Saturday, April 16. Shifts are only an hour and a half
beginning at 6:30 a.m. until 11
a.m. Remember the money raised
goes to support 4-H programs , so
it’s important we have 4-H’ers
helping! Call the Extension Office
to sign-up to help. 319/653-4811.
Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Nominations

we are looking for suggestions from you. Send Amy,
[email protected] an e-mail of someone you think
should be inducted and why by April 1. Youth Com-
