Dear HACT Friends, Donors &

Partners

Today is World AIDS Day an opportunity for

reflection and solidarity, particularly in the wake

of what has been a very challenging year for so

many, HACT included!

However, as our beloved Archbishop Desmond

Tutu, (who recently celebrated his 89th birthday)

said;

"Hope is being able to see the light

despite all the darkness."

And so, in the midst of this year's many hurdles and upheavals, our team would

like to share with you some of our positive stories, in the hope that they uplift

you and serve as a reminder to us all that the most challenges times often present

the most empowering lessons!

Thank you to all those who have and continue to support us.

With much thanks,

The HACT Team

HACT Celebrates 30

Years Of Unconditional

Love

HACT Staff and patients gathered

on the 1st December 2020, for an

extra special candle lighting

ceremony to mark World AIDS

Day as well as 30 years of

providing unconditional love and

hope to people impacted by HIV/AIDS.

Project Continues To

Flourish

HACT Welcomes New

Adopt-A-Bed Donor

Hope

For the past five months,

Zamekile Ngcemu has been

fighting for her life in HACT’s

Respite Unit. The 48 year-old

mother of two who hails from

Kwadengezi was suffering from

advanced stages of AIDS and TB

having defaulted on her

antiretroviral treatment (ART).

“The doctor at the clinic told me I was going to die” says Zamekile, Click here to

HACT Helps Give

Unemployed Youth

The Edge

Over the past year, HACT has

mentored and supported 15

young people who have

fulfilled various roles and

positions across our

organisation through the

nationwide YES (youth

employment service) initiative.

With over 5.9 million unemployed youth (pre-Covid) across our country, our team

was very happy to play a small role in offering these local youth the opportunity to

gain valuable skills and workplace experience and to offer several of them

ongoing employment where possible.

In celebration of all they have achieved, all our YES candidates (pictured above)

were treated to a delicious bunny chow lunch in our Ubuntu Ground Cafe last

week.

Locally-based food & beverage

company, Kerry International recently

sponsored the start-up of 10 new

vegetable gardens in Hammersdale in

support of HACT's Gogo Home

Gardens Project.

The COVID-19 emergency relief project

has now equipped over 230 local

grannies with vegetable seedlings,

tools and other essential supplies in an

effort to help improve their families'

long-term food security. 66 year-old,

grandmother of 12, Nomusa Mshebe

(pictured middle) said;

“I don’t have much, but I have a small

piece of land and I know how to grow

vegetables. This is all I need to make

sure my grandchildren don’t go

hungry...”           Gogo Nomusa

The HACT team were recently thrilled

to welcome African Bullion on board as

its latest Adopt-a-Bed sponsor.

With HACT's 24-bed Respite Unit

currently functioning as the only

facility providing free inpatient respite

and palliative care to children and

adults suffering from advanced stages

of AIDS or terminal cancer in the

region, we are challenging all local,

national and international companies

and groups to consider helping us fill

our board and secure sponsors for ALL

24 of our Respite Unit beds!

HACT Stands United

For 16 Days of

Activism Against

GBV

Wearing black armbands,

members of HACT's Respite Unit

team heeded our nation's call to

kick-off this year's 16 Days of

Activism for No Violence Against

Women and Children" with 5 Days of Mourning in memory of all those who have

lost their lives over this past year as a result of COVID-19, gender-based violence

and femicide. In the words of our President:

"The unacceptably high levels of gender-based violence and femicide in South

Africa are a blight on our national conscience and a betrayal of our constitutional

order for which so many fought and for which so many gave their lives."
