Rivers Primary Academy Home Learning Activities - Week 12 Pirates Love Underpants Maths Activities Every day: -Play racing games- How many balls can you collect before I count to 10? Practise touch counting, saying one number for each object. -Play hide and seek. Practise counting to 10. You could extend this to 20 if your child knows more numbers. In the day practise counting to 20, they will soon learn the numbers if they hear them regularly. Monday Go on your own treasure hunt. The pants pirates are looking for sets of pants. Can they find 3 sets of pants? Make pants with paper or use real ones. Start with finding 1 to 3 pairs of pants and then increase the amount if your child finds this easy. You could write how many you want to find to help number recognition too. Tuesday .Use some old pennies and hide them in a small tray of rice, foam or sand. Challenge your child to find all the treasure. How many coins did they find? Show them how to touch count how many coins they found? Wednesday Make a simple boat from a plastic tub or tinfoil. How much treasure can it hold? Carefully count out how many coins it will hold? Practise counting as each coin goes in the boat. Phonics Activities Every day:

● Tune in to Alphablocks on youtube. It is a good way for children to see how letters join to make a word.

● This explains how children learn phonics.

N1 activities Activity 1 - Help develop listening skills with this fun game. Listen to the animals, which one is in the zoo crate Welcome To The Zoo . Activity 2 -Involve the children in songs and stories, enlivened by role-play, props and repeated sounds, for example acting out: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall (bump, crash, bang!) All the King’s horses and all the King’s men (gallop, gallop, gallop) Couldn’t put Humpty together again (boo, hoo, boo, hoo, boo, hoo). N2 Activities Monday- Our letter of the day is ‘e’. Have a go at joining in with this video.. Repeat the sounds and words that have our new ‘e’ sound in. Can you remember the things that began with ‘e’? Can you think of any more? What can you find in your house? The e sound | Phase 2 Phonics | e words Tuesday -Our letter of the day is ‘u,’ Have a go at this game Flash Cards (Phase 2) - Online Phonics Game See if you can spot our new sound. Can you recognise the other sounds on the pirate ship. See if you can tell an adult something that begins with each sound you spot. Wednesday- Our letter of the day is ‘r’. Can you draw/ write some things that begin with ‘r’. E.g rat, rug, rocket, robot etc. Thursday- Lets try writing the letters e/u/r. Use shaving foam or rice in a tray or box to practise the correct way to form these letters.. Friday- Have a go at writing some CVC words that have our new sounds in that we have learnt this week e.g rug, run, rat, pet, egg, net, nut, up, cup etc. Why don’t you make your own flashcards so that you can practise reading these words.

Writing Activities Every day:

- Pirates like to send messages in a bottle. Write your own message and put it in a bottle to give to someone you love (Remember to practise your pencil hold)

- Continue to practise to write your name, copying or tracing over a yellow line. Who can write the 1st letter of their name on their own?

Our book this week is ‘Pirates love underpants’ Pirates love underpants - Books Alive!

Activity 1-Make a simple outline of a pair of pants. Encourage your child to decorate them with different patterns - spots, stripes, crosses, zigzags etc Activity 2- Write your child's name in chalk on a blackboard or on the floor outside. Ask your child to paint over their name with water and a brush. Can they copy the correct way to form the letters? You could try this in a tray of flour or rice (only use a small amount for best results)

Home Learning Activities - Week 13

Nursery – Summer Fun

Maths Activities Every day: -Over this week and during the summer holiday make time for number games (hide and seek,find the number, scavenger hunts eg 3 red bricks) - When out walking and reading books point out the shapes you can see. By commently on shape regularly your child will pick up the shape names without realising it. Monday Collect 5 of your favourite toys. Ask a grown up to take some away. Can you say how many are left? Tuesday Count everyday things; How many steps to the corner? How many jumps to the sofa? How many apples fit in the bowl? Do you think we will get 6 teds in the bag? Wednesday Play a simple dice game. Roll the dice and see how many spots are on the top of the dice...can you collect that many toys? If you don't have a toy you could make marks on a cube building brick. Thursday Go on a walk to find lots of just one shape (eg triangles - roof/ pizza slice/ cake slice/ road sign etc) Change the shape and do it again on another day. Friday Provide shape bricks for building. Talk about the shapes on the faces of the brick (2d shapes -circle/triangle/rectangle/square.) Introduce simple 3d shapes while playing (Can you pass a cube? I need lots of cuboids for this tower! This is called a triangular prism. This ball is called a sphere)

Reading Activities Every day: -Make time to share books. Maybe a sibling could read a favourite picture book or your child could retell a story they like. -Ask lots of questions whilst reading- What is happening? What might happen next? What was your favourite part? What happened at the end? -Ask your child to choose a familiar book or their favourite story and see if they can retell it to you by using the pictures to help. -Let children make up their own stories. Activity 1: Make a story box of a favourite story. Use a small box ideally a shoe box with a lid. Decorate the inside to make a scene from the story. Add small toy characters or create them using a card, let your child's imagination do the rest! Story Box {Shoe Box Craft} Activity 2: Make a special book corner in an area of their bedroom. Place a comfy cushion and a box or basket for them to choose books from . Phonics Activities Every day: Phase 2 Phonics Letter Sounds Join in with the video which helps support the pronunciation of Phase 2 sounds. You can practise these everyday. When around the house or going outside talk in ‘robot talk’ and ask the children if they can blend the word together e.g ‘’can you see that c-a-t.’’ The child will then say ‘c-a-t’ cat and blend together.

N1 activities Activity 1 Follow this pattern of sounds - Stomp, stomp, clap, clap, shout, shout. Make up your own pattern of sound and teach it to one of your family. Activity 2 Find lots of things outdoors that make super sounds. think about which objects make loud or quiet sounds. N2 Activities Monday- Our letter of the day is ‘h’,watch Geraldine the Giraffe learns /h/ during the day point out things that start with a ‘h’. eg “Put on your hat….oh, hat starts with a h!” Tuesday -Our letter of the day is ‘b,’ watch Geraldine the Giraffe learns /b/ write b and h on pieces of card. Practise saying the sounds. Now hide them behind your back, can your child say which sound it is when you show one of the cards? Wednesday- Our letter of the day is ‘f’, watch Geraldine the Giraffe learns /f/ Put the letters h/b/j on separate pieces of paper and ask your child to jump/hop/crawl/bounce to the correct sound when you say it. Thursday- Lets try writing the letters h/b/j. Use shaving foam or rice in a tray or box to practise the correct way to form these letters.. Friday- Write a simple cvc word such as m-a-t, c-a-t, h-a-t, b-a-t, f-a-t. Draw two options next to the word. Sound out the word together, can your child guess which picture they have read? Writing Activities Every day:

● Practise writing your name. Remember a capital letter at the start and then lowercase letters. Ask grown ups to write your name in a yellow pen on paper for you to trace over.

● Practise holding a pencil correctly between your thumb and finger. During the summer holidays enjoy colouring books, mark making, drawing, writing letters etc

Our book this week is ‘George the sun safe superstar’ Here is a link to the story- George The Sun Safe Superstar - Book Animation Activity 1-Make a poster to show others in your family how to be safe in the sun. Activity 2-Make picture of a cool hat that will keep you safe in the sun. Make it pretty with different colours or patterns. remember to hold your pencil in a good pencil grip.

Home Learning Activities - Week 14

Nursery- Party week

Maths Activities Every day: -Continue to practise counting in lots of different ways and spotting shapes around you. Lots of repetition will help your child to retain these skills and give them a head start for when they start Reception/come back to Nursery in September. Activity 1- You can use sand or crushed cereal to make a treasure hunt tray and hide numbers. See if children can

find the different numbers and put them in order. Activity 2- Draw some numbers on the floor using chalk and see if you can jump on each number and shout it out loud as you jump on it.

Activity 3- Make different shapes using sticks/stones from outside.

Reading Activities Every day -Read for at least 15 minutes each day.. -Listen to a story on www.booktrust.org.uk -Read familiar/favourite stories so you can retell the main events. This is our last week before the summer holidays so we would like you to do some fun, creative activities with your families. You have worked so hard this year, well done! Why don’t you have a little party in your garden. You could dress up in your favourite costume and get your favourite/toys and teddies to join you. Activity 1- Pirate Party song you can join in with- We are the Pirates - Kids Pirate Song | Songs for Children Activity 2- Help set up your party you could make some decorations, help make sandwiches, decorate cakes/biscuits. Play games such as musical statues, make an assault course in your garden etc.

Maybe you could collect some of the items to make a picture. Activity 3- Draw a picture ready to give to your new teacher in September.
