Getting Ready for DischargeGetting Ready for Discharge

The baby will need to have a test for metabolic screening and a discharge physical exam.

A certified 5 point car seat for the baby is mandatory for babies leaving by car.

It is recommended that the car seat undergo a safety inspection at a certified car seat inspection station (www.seatcheck.org. and

http://fems.dc.gov/fems/site/default.asp) Parents will place the infant in the car seat and the car seat

in the car. Staff members DO NOT assist with placement in the car. A discharge class is offered every evening for those parents

who are being discharged the next day. – All parents are strongly encouraged to attend. – The class will provide information necessary to

understand discharge process from the hospital. Discharge is at 11:00 AM daily.

Upon discharge, a patient representative must settle the hospital account with the cashier. You will be asked to pull the car to the curb of the main hospital entrance. A staff member will push the mother and baby out of the hospital in a wheelchair to the waiting car.
