This training modules collection was jointly prepared by the National Aerospace University “KhAI” andIntelligentsia Consultants in the frame of training development activities within FP7 KhAI-ERA project. It isintended for Ukrainian researchers and the others who are interested in international cooperation andresearch funding opportunities provided by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020Framework Programme for Research & Technological Development.

Included to this issue training modules contain both basic information about Horizon 2020 Programme aswell as expert recommendations on efficient involvement and participation in H2020 proposals preparationand submission. Also, the training modules collection includes initial information about the next TransportWork Programme for 2016-2017 period, overview of European Joint Undertakings in the area of Transport(Clean Sky 2, CESAR, Shift2Rail) and presentation of new funding opportunities (RISE and TWINNING) thatbecame available for Ukrainian researchers as a result of H2020 Association Agreement signing by Ukraine.

Foreword

This Training Modules collection is intended for Ukrainian researchers with minimal experience –or none – of participation in the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.

Included to this issue training modules contain both basic information about Horizon 2020Programme as well as expert recomendations on efficient involvement and participation in H2020proposals preparation and submission.

Also, training modules collection informs the readers about the next Transport Work Programmefor 2016-2017 period, European Joint Undertakings in the area of Transport (Clean Sky 2, CESAR,Shift2Rail) and new funding opportunities (RISE and TWINNING) that became available forUkrainian researchers as a result of H2020 Association Agreement signing by Ukraine.

It is our hope that this training module will help to increase the number of Ukrainian researchersparticipating in advanced collaborative research with European partners.

Introduction

Horizon 2020, new EU Programme for Research and Innovation is aimed at securing Europe's globalcompetitiveness. Running from 2014 to 2020 with an €77 billion budget, HORIZON 2020 will:

Strengthen the EU’s position in science with a dedicated budget of € 24.4 billion forproviding a boost to top-level research in Europe.

Reinforce EU industrial leadership as a result of € 17.1 billion investments in keytechnologies, greater access to capital and support for SMEs.

Provide € 29.7 billion to help address major societal challenges such as climate change,developing sustainable transport and mobility, making renewable energy more affordable,ensuring food safety and security, or coping with the challenge of an ageing population.

Fully open to international participants, HORIZON 2020 will be a perfect opportunity for Ukrainianresearchers to be involved into advanced collaborative research together with European partners.

Introduction

This training module presents possible approaches (appropriate for different level of skills andrequired different intensity of actions) that can help researchers to be involved in H2020 proposalpreparation. All of them were successfully approbated in Ukrainian practice and derived from theaccumulated experience of the most active Ukrainian entities.

Introduction

This training module was prepared based on a non-official draft of the Transport Work Programme2016-2017 downloaded from the EURIDA portal (http://www.eurida-research.com/horizon-2020-news/news-18/index.html).

The aim of this training module was to inform Ukrainian researchers about the future H2020 callsin the field of Smart, Green and Integrated Transport as early as possible and to provide them anopportunity to be prepared when the next H2020 call would be launch.

Introduction

Status of H2020 Associated country, which was obtained by Ukraine as a result of H2020Association Agreement signing on 20 March 2015, opens new funding opportunities for Ukrainianresearchers in the frame of H2020. Among them are calls for proposals that are regularly issued byEuropean Joint Undertakings (formerly called Joint Technology Initiatives).

This training module dedicated to European JUs in the field of Smart, Green and IntegratedTransport that collect 50% of EU finding budget for transport research. They are Clean Sky 2,SESAR and Shift2Rail.

HORIZON 2020 Programme of the European Union opens new funding opportunities for Ukrainianresearchers. In particular, Marie-Curie RISE (Research and Innovation Staff Exchange) and TWINNINGfunding schemes aim at supporting mobility of researchers and stimulating scientific excellence andinnovation capacity through twinning activities with internationally-leading European partners.
