ThepurposeofthisschemeofdelegationistosetouthowtheHaberdashers’Aske’sFederation

Trust(HAFT)delegatesitsresponsibilitiestothedifferentpartsofitsgovernancestructureandits

executiveteam.ThisschemereflectsthevisionstatementoftheTrust.

TheHaberdashers'Aske'sFederationisafederationofthreeall-throughstate-maintained

independentschoolseachattheheartoftheircommunitythatshareavisionfortheeducationof

childrenandyoungpeople.Ourvisionisbuiltfromourvaluesofaspirationandachievement,

personalresponsibility,self-disciplineandmutualrespect.Weareforwardlookingandvalue

innovationwithinthecontextofourlongtraditionofprovidingexcellenteducation.Basedupon

thesevaluesweaimtoensureallthechildrenandyoungpeoplewhocometoourschools:

1. ThestructureofHAFTHAFTisacloselyintegratedMAT.Itsthreeschoolshavesharedgovernanceandsharedexecutive

leadership.

GovernanceThereisacloserelationshipbetweenthedifferentpartsofgovernanceinHAFT,buteachhasdistinct

responsibilities.Thelocalgoverningbodiesarefocussedsolelyonensuringthequalityofeducational

provision.TheTrustBoardanditscommitteesareresponsibleforthestrategicprioritiesofthe

organisation,itsgrowthplans,majorcapitalinvestmentsandforapprovingthebudgetand

managingthefinancesacrosstheorganisation.

Thisdocumentshouldbereadalongsidetwootherkeydocuments:

• Thetermsofreferenceofthegoverningbody,whichgivesdetailsofthemembershipofthe

TrustBoard,itscommitteesandthelocalgoverningbodies.Itsummarisestheir

responsibilities,extractedfromtheschemeofdelegationtablebelow,andspecifieswhere

tasksneedtobecarriedoutineachmeeting.

• Theschemeofdelegationoffinancialpowers,whichdescribesindetailthelimitsof

authorityofindividualstospendmoneyandtomakeotherindividualfinancialdecisions

HAFT’sPrincipalsponsoristheWorshipfulCompanyofHaberdashers.Itssecondsponsoristhe

TempleGroveSchoolsTrust.HAFT’smembersareappointedbytheWorshipfulCompanyof

Haberdashersorbyaresolutionofthemembers.TheChairmanofDirectorsofHAFTisamemberex-

officioifnototherwiseappointedamember.

TheTrustBoardistheboardofdirectorsoftheTrust.Uptotendirectorsareappointedbythe

members(nominateddirectors);uptotwodirectorsareappointedbytheTempleGroveSchools

Trust.TheCEOisadirectorex-officio.Thedirectorsmayco-optadditionaldirectors.

TherearefourcommitteesoftheTrustboard:finance,audit,strategyandstandards.Thechairof

eachcommitteeisappointedbytheTrustBoard.Eachcommittee’smembersaredrawnfromthe

directorsand,inthecaseoftheauditcommittee,independentappointeeswhodonothaveany

otherroleintheTrust’sgovernance.

Thereisalocalgoverningbodyforeachschool:Crayford,HatchamandKnights.Thechairofeach

localgoverningbodyisappointedbytheTrustBoardandisdrawnfromamongstthenominated

directors.Themembershipofeachlocalgoverningbodyincludesotherdirectorsofthetrust,elected

parentsandstaff,localauthorityrepresentativesandco-optedgovernors.

TheHatchamTempleGroveFreeSchool(HTGFS)islegallyaseparateschoolbutoperatesaspartof

theHatchamCollegeall-throughschool.TheheadteacherofHTGFSisline-managedbythePrincipal

ofHatchamCollege.HTGFShasaseparatelocalgoverningbody,butthishasthesamemembership

asthegoverningbodyofHatchamCollegeandallmeetingsareheldjointly.

TheExecutiveTheexecutiveleadershipoftheMATisnotdistinctorseparatefromtheleadershipoftheschools.

AllkeyexecutivedecisionsabouttheMATaremadebytheFederationExecutiveTeamwhich

consistsofthethreePrincipalsoftheall-throughschools,theDirectorofPerformance,theDirector

ofFinanceandtheCEOinthechair.HAFThasasharedpedagogicmodelandtheorganisationis

structuredtosupportcollaborativeactivitytodevelopandimplementhighlyeffectiveshared

practiceacrossallaspectsoftheworkoftheschoolsintheTrust.Thisworkisundertakenby

strategicleadershipcommitteescomprisedofseniorleadersfromeachschool.Eachcommitteeis

chairedbytheCEOoranothermemberoftheFederationExecutiveTeam,towhichtheyareall

accountable.Thestrategicleadershipcommitteesarenotdescribedintheschemeofdelegation

table.TheirmembershipandremitisdecidedbytheFederationExecutivewhichremainsultimately

accountableforalltheiractions.

ThePrincipalofeachofthethreeall-throughAcademiesiswhollyresponsibleandaccountablefor

themanagementofhisorherschool.TheyarerequiredtofollowtheTrust’sagreedpoliciesandto

implementtheproceduresandpracticeagreedbytheFederationExecutiveTeamanditsstrategic

leadershipcommittees,ofwhichtheyaremembers.OtherwisethePrincipalshaveautonomyover

allothermanagementdecisionsabouttheirschoolsandtheyareexpectedtodeterminehowbestto

actinaccordancewiththeTrust’svisionstatement.Incarryingouttheirresponsibilitiesthe

PrincipalsandtheirteamsmaybeadvisedorscrutinisedbytheCEOandothercentrallyemployed

staffactingonhisbehalf,butthisdoesnotinanywayalterthePrincipals’responsibilitiesfortheir

schools.EachPrincipalissupportedbyanAcademyLeadershipTeam.Themembershipofeachteam

andtheresponsibilitiesoftheirmembersarenotdescribedintheschemeofdelegationtable.The

Principalremainsaccountablefortheseniorleadersactingonhis/herbehalf.
