The charity organization that we are

donating to is called Tzu ChiFoundation.

Tzu Chi Foundation was establishedin1966 by Venerable Dharma MasterCheng Yen on the impecunious eastcoast of Taiwan. For over 42 years,the foundation has been contributingto better social and communityservices, medical care, education andhumanism in Taiwan and around theworld. From the first 30 members,housewives who saved two centsfrom their grocery money each day tohelp the poor, the foundation hasgrown to over five million members in45 countries.

Tzu Chis missions focus on givingmaterial aid to the needy andinspiring love and humanity to bothgivers and receivers. It alsopromotes humanisticvalues and communityvolunteerism . Through helpingthose in need, Tzu Chi volunteerstake on the path of bodhisattva

What Happened?

Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan withstrong winds and heavydownpours on August 7. Toppledbuildings, landslide buryingvillages, overflowing rivers andflooded streets are among theravages it has made to manyareas. Thousands of people havebeen displaced.

More than 17,000 Tzu Chivolunteers around Taiwanimmediately started relief efforts.More than 200,000 hot mealshave already been delivered.Emergency relief money of NT$5,000-10,000 per householdis scheduled to be distributed to12,000 families in the hardest hitareas. Tzu Chi volunteers havedistributed relief materials,including 25 tons of instant rice,2,000 boxes of instant noodles,34,000 eco-friendly blankets andutensils and other dailynecessities.
