DayCaring Preschool’s annual Halloween Costume Party and Parade will be on Tuesday, October 31 st beginning at 10am with a snack party, songs and the reading of our Halloween Stories. We will have a parade around the parking lot and do the Hokey Pokey, then take our traditional trick or treat walk next door to Care Meridian. There will be a sign up sheet for snacks and things we’d like to have for the party set out at the sing in desk the week before. So keep a look out and you can sign up to send what you’d like to contribute with your child. I’ll email a reminder later this month. If Tuesday is not your child’s regular attendance day but they would like to be a part of the fun, they are more than welcome to join us for the party and festivities as long as an adult accompanies them. Children learn to love the sound of language before they even notice the existence of printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.

Reading to young children is one of the very best things that parents can do for them. What a delight to be snuggled close and hear the calm soothing rhythmic voice of your most treasured person, your parent.

So much of the intelligence that children will have is developed before they even get to kindergarten. When you read to them you are building pathways in their brains needed for successful future reading experiences.

Some of our favorites for reading with preschoolers are:

• Harold and the Purple Crayon By Crockett Johnson

• Jamberry By Bruce Degen

• You’re All My Favorites By Sam Bratney

• Cars and Trucks and Things That Go By Richard Scarry

• The Very Hungry Caterpillar By Eric Carle

• Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel By Virgina Lee Burton

• The Hello, Goodbye Window By Norton Juster & Chris Raschka

• Knuffle Bunny By Mo Willems

Reading to Young Children So Much More Than Just Reading
