Craft: Paper Pumpkin Sculptures

These simple pumpkins inspired by paper-chain dolls let kids

create a string of festive faces. For the small trio shown here,

download our template at familyfunmag.com/printables

(scroll to October 2013). Accordion-fold an 18-inch by

5-inch piece of orange paper (tape two pieces together, if

needed) into six 3-inch sections. Using the template, cut out the

shape. For symmetrical features, cut them from a sheet of black

paper folded in half. Attach them with a glue stick.

Craft: Owl Mania!

Whooo’s the cutest fall decoration around? These winged creatures! More sweet

than scary, they make a great tabletop centerpiece when perched on a

branch. To assemble one, trim an inch from one end of a bathroom-tissue tube, fold

in the top, and secure it with tape. Cut a cupcake liner into quarters, then trim

away the flat sections, leaving just the ruffles. Use tacky glue to secure

overlapping ruffled pieces to the tube. Cut eyes and a beak from card stock. (For the snowy owl, cut circles from a cupcake liner to back the eyes.) Add pupils and dots with

marker. Glue the eyes and beak to the tube. For ruffled wings, cut sections

from a liner and glue them to the back of the tube. For smooth wings, attach a

curved half-circle of card stock instead.

Snack: Deep Space Cupcakes

When these aliens invade the classroom, the little earthlings

will cheer! To make them, prepare a batch of cupcakes. Tint prepared white icing with

green food coloring, then frost the cupcakes, creating a

pointy chin as you spread. Roll each one in green sugar

sprinkles. Add white Good & Plenty candies for the eyes.

Snack: Bags o' Boo

Treat hungry souls to some ghostly goodie bags. With black

permanent marker, draw faces on clear cone-shaped treat

bags (available at craft stores). Fill them with a mix of popcorn,

mini marshmallows, and yogurt-covered raisins.

Tie with a ribbon.

Craft: Wonder Webs

Oh, what a web we weave when making these for Halloween! Glue together three craft sticks in the

form of an asterisk (if you have time, paint them silver before the

party!). Tie one end of a length of yarn (about 2 yards per web) to the center of the sticks. Wrap it around the center, then weave

around the spokes. Tie off the yarn and add a plastic spider.
