• Automation is the use of control systems and information technologies to reduce the need for human work in the production of goods and services

What Is Automation?

Page 3: Hament Ppt

• Faster production and delivery of goods • improved quality • Increased flexibility• Customer satisfaction• Easy to use even for unskilled worker

Why it is Required ?

Automation in different department of

garment industry

Designing

In the garment manufacturing the first step is designing the sketch for the dresses that have to be prepaid Later this deign is made manually but now a days it is made by computer .

Page 8: Hament Ppt

Designing by computer

• This done by cad software • First 2d pattern is made by conventional 2d

garment cad software and then by giving some additional information it is converted in 3d pattern .

Page 9: Hament Ppt

Advantage of cad over manual method of designing

• The expense and time is reduced• The data can be easily stored and transported

through computer files• Easily customized and personalized as

correction and editing can be done at any time without significant delays or cost increase

• The designers don’t need to produces swatches all the time

Page 10: Hament Ppt

Measurement

• Works as an digitiser whose incident light act as a stylus.

• Special chamber with focusing cameras, lenses, lights.

• Collected scanned data is in the form of Point Cloud data

• Data reduction for retrieving accurate and maximum information.

Page 11: Hament Ppt

Advantage of 3-D body scanning technique

• Fast technique • Less chances of error in taking measurements

Page 12: Hament Ppt

Pattern making

• The pattern design is now taken for creating the production patterns .the production paper is one which will be used for huge production of garment . Garment patterns can be constructed by two means

• Manual method • cad / cam method

Page 13: Hament Ppt

What is marker planning

• Arrangement of all the pattern pieces for all the required sizes on the paper in such a way that maximum number of garment could be produced with minimum fabric wastage marker is also useful to estimate fabric consumption calculation .later it is done manually but now a days it is done by cad

Comparison Between CAD Marker Making & Manual Marker Making:

. In manual system the system is used to make maker for garment making is traditional. But in CAD system marker making is done in modern system.

• Marker efficiencies is not visible in manual system. Other hand, marker efficiency is visible in CAD system.

Page 15: Hament Ppt

• In manual, once marker is made, not possible to increase its efficiency. But in CAD it is possible to increase the efficiency at any time.

• Marker copying is not possible manually. In CAD, by using Plotter as much as possible copy can be done.

• Manual marker making is very time consuming method whereas, CAD is a faster method.

Page 16: Hament Ppt

• In manual system quality can not be assured. It has quality assurance.

• Manual system costing is low but CAD is expensive.

Spreading

Fabric spreading means smooth laying out of fabrics as per marker direction fabric spreading is preparatory process for cutting

Page 18: Hament Ppt

e.g Gerber spreader xls50 machine

• Tension free spreading of fabric • Provide accurate and consistent spread length• Easy material loading or unloading• Platform for opreater

Page 20: Hament Ppt

cutting

• To perform the cutting task a disk having all the information related to the marker planning is feed to system having cad/cam

Page 21: Hament Ppt

Advantage of computer control knife

• Very active and fast cutting by computer controlled system t

• Suitable for very large production • Speed of cutting can be controlled• Cutting defect are very less example:-Gerber xlc7000

Page 22: Hament Ppt

Technical specifications of xlc 7000

Fabric height (compressed) 7,2 cm 2.83 in

Cutting speed (maximum) 30,5 m/min 1200 in/min

Throughput - average (dependingon application)

8 m/min 315 in/min

Head acceleration (maximum) 2,4 m/s2 1/4 g

Table weight 4511 kg 9947 lbs

Table heights - available 80, 86, 91 cm 31.5, 34, 35.8 in

Assembling or sewing

Sewing machine is an important part of apparel and garment manufacturing technology . production of garment factory depend on the performance of sewing machine and principle of stitching . Robtics is the most advanced form of automation in garment sewing operation

Page 24: Hament Ppt

•Application of robotics is done to eliminate maximum manual functions

•Robot is a reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator

•Used to move materials, parts, tools or specialized devices through variable programmed motions

Robotics

Page 25: Hament Ppt

Features:•Human like machine•Having sensors & grippers•Deaf, dumb & blind•Arms, legs tied to floor•Man-Robot combination is lethal•Non-lethargic

Page 26: Hament Ppt

SO, WHAT’S THE CONCLUSION ?

Page 27: Hament Ppt

Automation is the buzz-word in every industry today. Each new technology comes with its pros & cons so does the AUTOMATION. While on one hand boasts of high speed of production, high quality on the other hand it engenders unemployment and high installation costs. Automation can go a long way revolutionizing the garment industry and help give most awaited fillip to the textile industry in the post-quota era.
