Meet, Sauté, LoveSpeed dating. It’s a great concept in many ways. Like all the best games, it involves chance, challenge and enough pace to keep things interesting. Plus it’s one of the few situa-tions where you’re guaranteed to meet other singletons.

But my main issue with speed dating has always been, that’s it’s all a bit… random.

Well that was before Pulled.

Pulled is an event that combines speed dating with cook-ery. Now I love food, and I love people who love food. So all of a sudden, with visions of snatched conversation over frantically chopped onions and sizzling herbs, speed dat-ing started to sound irresistible.

And Pulled didn’t disappoint. Twenty of us fresh-faced hopefuls were ushered into the Coexist kitchen by cupids Jo and Bex. The room was decked out with a plentiful sup-ply of gorgeous, fresh produce. We donned our pinnies and got stuck in.

The way it works is simple. There are 10 stations, each with ingredients, instructions and tools. You have five minutes to get your head round the task, nail the prep and suss your ‘date’, before moving on to the next station. Wine and beer were on hand to banish nerves, and make the task of changing the electric whisk attachment ever so slightly more challenging.

It was enlightening. It was fast-paced. It was fun. By the time the cooking was done, my belly ached from laughing.Because we were working on a task together, the conver-sation just flowed. And Hamilton House had attracted exactly the kind of creative, friendly, fascinating folk I’d hoped for.

After all the mad chopping, mixing and heating, this deli-cious meal just appeared. As if by magic.

And there was still the chance of meeting my match…

Pulled – a speed dating cookery class returns on 10 April at 7pm for £25
