SHACKS DESTROYED AFTER PRESIDENTS STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESSThis month president of Republic of South Africa Jacob Zuma made State of the Nation Address, most citizens left their daily chores with hope of hearing what they stand to benefit from government. Some were left heartache while some are still celebrating good news of what they stand to benefit from announcements of the services they cannot wait until they are implemented at their different places they reside at. Some of the communities they found themselves caught off guard are those of Chris Hani Block G in Hammanskraal near one of Hammanskraal location called Manyeleti. This is after the day president made state of the nation address when some of the shacks were destroyed by the contractor of Municipal of City of Tshwane. About eight residents of Block G found themselves without roof of their shacks they call homes after Joint Venture as their commonly called demolished their shacks accompanied by Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers of Hammanskraal before midday. One of those whose shack was destroyed Thabang Makgafola who was staying with his girlfriend and their less than one year old baby spoke to Hammanskraal News with sadness that he is hurt and angry that only those residences who did not buy the stands their property were destroyed. “Why only few shacks have been destroyed and while some of those who bought stands they survive the demolition, does that mean only those who have money are entitled to have better lives” contested one member of community.Another resident who works at the bakery Elias Pele said that he received a call from his neighbours while he was still at work notifying him that his shack has been demolished by joint venture while he was at Soshanguve delivering bread. He said that he was forced to call his employees about the sad news so that he could come and find out what was happening before he found his shack being destroyed. He made claims that he never received any notice letter from Metro Police or sheriff of the court that they must evacuate the place because two days before the incident about three residents were served with notices but their shack was demolished even though they were never given notice. Some of those who were served with notices

made allegations that the papers they were given showed that originally it was typed that they must evacuate the area within 24 hours but it was cancelled with a pen and changed into immediately. Another one speaking on anonymity said that he is afraid of being harassed and alleged that he was approached by an individual known as Seun Sibanyoni demanding money after he occupied an empty stand and refused to give him money he was demanding and currently he is amongst those whose shacks have been demolished. After some of those shacks were destroyed were rebuilt again and community members vowed that they will continue to build their shacks because they have nowhere to stay.Hammanskraal News was told that another person implicated in allegations of taking money for the stand is a woman who is also a member of ANC is Gloria Mlambo in Chris Hani. Some residents allegedly said that the daughter of Mlambo made claims that during one of the community meetings she said that she is having a fight with her mother for taking money from some of the residents who have occupied the stands. They further said that they can even identify those who have bought the stands and their shacks were left untouched because they have money while the have nots lost their properties during the destruction.

Ward 75 Councillor Jane Makgatho told Hammanskraal News that those individual whose shacks were removed occupied the place illegally because they did not follow municipal procedure because some they want to take advantage of the fact that Block G will soon be developed. She said that she had a meeting with community including its committee informing the residents to stop occupying the place and erecting shacks and told those who have occupied the land illegally to leave the area and discontinue erecting structures. Responding to claims that some residents were not served with eviction letters Makgatho said that the municipality is not responsible but it’s the duty of the contractor who is hired. This is after some of the residents said that if they were served with eviction letters they would have left the place but that was not the case. She confirmed that indeed some residences made allegations that Sibanyoni and Mlambo sold the stands or empty sites and she told them that if they have proof they must open a criminal case against the two. “If people need stands they must follow municipal procedure and list their names at municipal offices because illegal occupation on municipal land will not be tolerated.

MORE OF A HELL THAN A HOMESebushane Moobi

When people enjoy going home with the saying “home, sweet home,” it is a different song for Dumakude Shami (38), a Phophola (Mashimong) resident. The lad told Hammanskraal News how sad it had been for him to stay in what he calls hell other than being home. The lad relayed that he is born from a family of seven where the elder brothers and sisters are married. He explained that they have moved out and he also did the same whilst his father was still alive. Duma stated that everything went well when he fell in love with a girl that his mother approved of. He explained that it was after his father’s death when he was enjoined by his elder brothers and sisters to move back home. He lamented that the sweet home life soured when he

parted with the liked lady, retrenched and without a source of income.Duma voiced that he had parted with and disapproved of the new relationship. He clarified that he found his former relationship was based on material possession. He alleged that his mother does not approve of the new relationship basing it on culture. The lad complained that when he visits his home with the new lady, he is locked out. He added that his mother shouts and swears at them. He claimed that his mother wants him to marry from the same tribe as she. He further told Hammanskraal News that he prefers a lady of his own choice.Duma went further to say that he is treated this bad because he refuse to marry the girl in question and that he is unemployed.

He expressed his dissatisfaction that his mother had taken his bedroom suite into an empty room. He said that she explained that real men have to first sleep on the floor to mature. He further said that upon sleeping on the couch, the old lady took the cushions to the “store room”. “All this because I have fallen in love with a girl of a different culture to mine”, he cried. He added that he does not have keys to either the house or his bedroom. Duma concluded that his mother numerously hammered his bedroom door with something hard whilst they (he and the new girlfriend) were asleep at night.Veronica Shami, Duma’s mother bragged that she is a very strict woman, nothing and nobody would be changed. The angry old lady told Hammanskraal News that she is aged and she is not to be told how to run her family. She added that she grew up from a very strict parents and she has to convey the strength to her children. She relayed in anger that her son is no different from other children who had gone through the same growing stage of being hardened to manhood. She further stated that her culture is not to be soiled by a mixture from nowhere. She indicated that her tradition calls for men who grow from a non-compromising conditions and situations to be strong. Nteseng Molobeng (pseudonym), the new and unwanted girlfriend told Hammanskraal News that it was sad to part ways with the man that she loves. She stated that it was

difficult for them to get to her boyfriend’s home at night to be locked out. She explained that the mother would open for her son and immediately bang and lock the door before her eyes. She added that she at times feared for her life going back home after midnight. She concluded that she cannot do otherwise but endure the loss of a prospective husband than cause hostility in the family.

Some people take years saving money in order to buy what they need or make sacrifices to achieve their goals. One of them is a man who stays in Hammanskraal. His car was chopped into scrap metal after it was stolen from his yard in the early hours. Temba police were alerted by community members who saw three suspects chopping a red Golf in the bushes. According to the police the three suspects used axes to chop up the car after they stole it in the early hours from its owner.Constable (Cst) Herman Moremi of Temba said that a case of possession of stolen motor vehicle has been opened against three suspects. According to police the suspects stole

the motor vehicle around 4am, before towing it with another one to the bushes near a place called Marikana in Soutpan. “The suspects then decided to turn the bush into a ‘chop shop’ and started chopping the motor vehicle before some of the community members saw their evil deeds.” Police said that they are very thankful to the community of Marikana for the tip-off which led to the arrest of the suspects and would like to appeal to them to continue to report suspicious activities or vehicles in the bushes. During the arrest police also managed to confiscate the car that was used to tow the stolen one.According to police, one of the suspects apprehended is known to be a mastermind of

car theft and this is not the first time he was arrested for the same offence. The other two accomplices claim that they were asked assist to chop the motor vehicle by this mastermind. When Hammanskraal News went to the police station, the mastermind’s clothes and face were all covered by stains. Police said that the motor vehicle engine and other parts were taken to another woman’s place when the suspects were arrested. One of the towing operators who works with the police told Hammanskraal News that in a month they have managed to find about eleven cars in the bushes between Ratjiepane and Mogogelo. He further said that they sometimes find carcasses of stolen cattles which have been killed and had some of their parts removed. He advises community members to be on the lookout when passing these areas and to inform the police when they witness such actions taking place. Cst Moremi appeals to members of the community to stop parking their motor vehicles in the streets during the night. This is after two cases have being opened for separate incidents of pointing of firearms, robbery and stolen vehicles. According to Moremi the first incident took place at Leboneng around 20h20 when a male and his lady friend were seated in a VW Golf in the street. It is alleged two suspects approached the driver’s door and cocked the revolver pistol, ordering the two occupants to get out and lie on the ground in front of the motor vehicle. He said that while the two victims were still on the ground, the other suspect tried to switch the engine on but could not and that was when he ordered the driver to show them how it was

done before ordering the two victims into the back seat of the motor vehicle. “The suspect drove around Leboneng until 20h50 and then robbed the two occupants’ cellphones and cash before leaving them at Drygin Village which is a few kilometers away from Leboneng,” driving off with the motor vehicle. The second incident took place at Eersterus Block C when a boyfriend and girlfriend were sitting in a car parked outside when they were approached by three suspects and ordered by one of them to get out and sit in the back seat of the VW Polo. Moremi said that the three suspects picked up the fourth suspect on the road and drove off to Winterveldt in Mabopane while the victims’ hands were tied at their backs with cables. It is alleged the suspects then went to another place where they removed the tracker alarm system from the car while the owner of the motor vehicle watched helplessly. Police say that the four suspects then robbed the victims of their cellphones before demanding the driver’s bank card and PIN number and one of them went to the bank, withdrawing R3000,00 from his account. The suspects then drove off with the victims before leaving them in that area and driving away with the motor vehicle. Moremi advises community members to avoid parking in the streets in the evening - they must rather park inside a yard or find safe places to park to avoid being robbed if they are couples who want to enjoy quality time together. He told Hammanskraal News that what is worrying is that in both incidents all victims were robbed around eight o’clock, the same model of firearm was used and the two hijacked vehicles were both VW model cars.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER

A 28 years old woman has been detained at Temba police station for allegedly stabbing her ex-boyfriend with a knife. According to the Temba police spokesperson lieutenant Sarah Lesabane, the incident happened on Sunday morning 22 February, in Maroko-long village. It is alleged that the woman found the man with his other ex-girlfriend at his home and when the man opened the door for her, she instantly stabbed him. “The ex-boyfriend was stabbed several times in his upper body”, said Lieutenant Lesabane. The suspect is expected to appear at Moretele magistrate court on charges of attempted murder. In another incident a man has been robbed of money which amounts to R25 000, 00 at Hammanskraal station. According to police reports, the victim withdrew money from an ATM at Jubilee Mall. “After withdrawing the money he went to Hammanskraal station when he was then apprehended by three men driving a Silver Ford Focus car near Pretoria Bricks in Kopanong, Hammanskraal”, explained Lieuten-ant Lesabane. The victim was instructed to get inside the car at gun point and he was searched then after he was robbed all the money he withdrew from the ATM. He was also assaulted with a gun and sustained minor injuries. “After the incident they then let him go and when the car took off he was unable to see its registration”, Said Lieutenant Lesabane. The po-lice are still in search of the suspects. Lieutenant has warned people not to withdraw any large amounts of money at ATM’s as it is dangerous rather they make other means of transferring money when necessary. In Soshanguve UU, a Putco bus was stolen after it had a breakdown on 31 January in the morning. According to Lieutenant Lesabane the driver of the bus left it in the area and upon his return with the company mechanics it was nowhere to be found. They then opened a case at Akasia police station on the very same day. Few days later a member of the community sent a tip-off to the police after he spotted the very same bus at Freddy’s scrap yard in Molefe Makinta Road in Suurman. “When the police arrived at the scrap yard the bus flit number had already been removed”, said Lieutenant. A 40 years old Josia Gimba who was then found test driving the bus was arrested for possession of suspected stolen bus. He appeared at Moretele Magistrates Court on 16 February.
