Hammurabi was the sixth king of Babylonian. Author of the code of Hammurabi. He ruled Babylon nearly four

millennia ago, from roughly 1792-1750 B.C. He was born in 19th century B.C. in Babylon (now Iraq).

These laws were written on carved on stele.is now in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The stele is dark and shiny.

(Around 2 meters tall, taller than you) He made 282 laws. It was written in Akkadian, the daily language of Babylon, and could be read by any literate

person in the city. There are six categories in the code, Religion, Irrigation, Military service, trade, Slavery and the duties of workers.

HAMMURABI’S CODE DECODED~7. If any one buy from the son or the slave of another man, without witnesses or a contract, silver or gold, a male or female slave, an ox or a sheep, ass or anything, or if he take it in charge, he is considered a thief and shall be put to death.~

This means if anyone buy from the people are younger or the slave of another man, without elders or a power person, silver or gold, a male or female slave, anything. Or if he take it in charge, he should be put to death.

I kind of agree with this law, because you don’t know where the thing that you brought came from. Maybe it’s stole form the others. But the punishment is too big I think. Now this law we do have it, but it change a bit. It depends on what we buy. Like if we buy thing from the others that are not legal like drug or something, we could get punish.

HAMMURABI’S CODE DECODED~110. If a “sister of god” open a tavern or enter a tavern to drink, then shall this woman be burned to death.~

If a “sister of god” (woman that is close to god) open a tavern or go in a tavern then she shall be burned to death.

I don’t agree with this laws because I think the punishment is too big. This is not a law today.

HAMMURABI’S CODE DECODED~192. If the son of a palace favorite or the son of a vowed woman has said to the father that brought him up, "You are not my father," or to the mother that brought him up, "You are not my mother," his tongue shall be cut out.~

This means that if a son of somebody that the palace like says to his father or mother that raised him “you are not my parent” then the son’s tongue will be cut off.

I don’t really agree with this law because the son may just say it in accident doesn’t mean that but his tongue should cut off forever. This law does’t exist now.

HAMMURABI’S CODE DECODED~196. If a man has knocked out the eye of a patrician, his eye shall be knocked out. ~

This also could be said “ An Eye for An Eye”. It means that if A steal something from B, the person who got steal, could steal A back.

I don’t really agree with this laws because it’ll sometimes will make things worst. And it only makes people more angry. This laws doesn’t exist now, we usually find police to solve theses problems.

HAMMURABI’S CODE DECODED~210. If the woman die, his daughter should be put to death.~

This means if a mother dies, her daughters to all be put to death.

I disagree this law, I think it’s stupid and useless. Why should the daughters also have to die? It doesn’t make to environment better or what, but it makes people more sad. This is not a law today.
