Find outwhat's possibleRutgers is the only university that
offers an engineering-based cur-
riculum in packaging. Graduates of
the packaging engineering program
at Rutgers are in high demand
by industry throughout the United
States.
Applied sciences in engineering
students can pursue either a four-
year bachelor of science degree
or a fve-year combined bachelor
of arts degree in a liberal arts area
with the bachelor of science degree
in engineering.
In our "Surface Decoration of
Packaging" course, students learn
about the fundamental principles of
printing techniques used on glass,
metal, plastic, paper, and compos-
ite packages.
As a member of Pi Kappa
Gamma, the packaging
honorary society, you will h
access to co-op education
opportunities, information a
networking sessions with
industry professionals, plan
tours, and the annual
PackExpo convention,
where you will get hands-o
experience with state-of-th
art packaging technology.
With the help of a faculty committee, you
can pick and choose courses from other Rutgers
engineering programs and build a curriculum that
prepares you to fulll your goals. The last two years
of your program will be developed in close consul-
tation with the dean to meet your special interests.
Three possible areas of specialization:
lBiomedical science and engineering
Just like premedicine, this curriculum is intended
for students who plan to go on to medical school
or graduate study in biomedical engineering.
Courses can be chosen from any engineering
discipline, including the Department of Biomedi-
cal Engineering.
lEngineering physics
This curriculum prepares students for work in
a physics research laboratory and for further
study in engineering or physics. It includes
courses in modern physics, electricity and mag-
netism, and solid-state physics. Students in this
option often simultaneously complete a second
major in physics.
lPackaging engineering
This curriculum prepares scientists and engi
neers for work in the eld of packagingthe
successful transport and delivery of a produc
from the manufacturer to the consumer.Courses focus on packaging machinery,
packaging evaluation, and package design
and development.
The applied sciences in engineering program
offered on Rutgers' New Brunswick Campus. St
dents at the Camden and Newark campuses ma
be able to transfer to the School of Engineering.

internship to ease the transition to
the workplace.
In the classroom, Eric Wallenstein,
a biomedical engineering student,
is working on a thesis that investi-
gates bioengineered human skin
equivalents. Rutgers also prepared
him for his off-campus activities,
which included coauthoring a paper
on anti-inammatory drugs at
Janssen, L.P.
Students interested in tissue
engineering will be exposed to cell
culture systems, microscopy and
imaging, and the quantication of
cell growth simulation in a newly
developed instructional laboratory
designed specically for the eld.
Rutgers' program in biome
cal engineering has pionee
several breakthroughs in th
eld including heart-assist
devices for cardiac surgery
and the use of virtual reality
the rehabilitation of limbs.
Since its initiation in 1965, Rutgers' biomedical
engineering has remained abreast of the discipline's
breakthroughs and boasts endless opportunities in
biomedical engineering education and research. As
a leading public research university, Rutgers offers
biomedical engineering degree programs at the
bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Students
can choose from ve concentrations:
lMolecular, cellular, and nanosystems bio-
engineering
l
Biomaterials and tissue engineeringlBiomechanics and rehabilitation engineering
lPhysiologic systems and bioinstrumentation
lComputational bioengineering and bio-
medical imaging
Our students study with faculty who are mem-
bers of several centers of excellence, such as
The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Center for
Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, and the
W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience.

Biomedical engineers apply engineering principles to the medical eld to improve indi-
vidual health care. Whether you dream of creating articial organs for patients who need
transplants, improving medical imaging technologies to better diagnose breast cancer,
or designing groundbreaking rehabilitation equipment for spinal cord injuries, a Rutgers
education in biomedical engineering will make those dreams a reality.

Athletic and Recreation Facilities
nAs a Rutgers student, prepare to get seriously sweaty in any of our
14 competitive and training facilities that offer the latest equipment and
certified trainers. Our facilities include weight rooms, cardio fitness
rooms, saunas, steam rooms, squash/racquetball courts, indoor and
outdoor tennis facilities, dance studios, and large gymnasiums. Fitness
centers are conveniently located on each of the campuses and the
College Ave campus even has a power gym for Olympic power-lifting
boxing training.
Unwind and stay t by visiting our rock climbing facilities,
rope course, Ultimate Frisbee course, beach volleyball courts,
roller hockey rink, and any one of our eight pools. Rutgers offers an
18-hole golf course consistently ranked by Golf Digestas a "best
place to play" among public courses.
Sports fans can cheer on their favorite Rutgers basketball team
in the Louis Brown Athletic Center(RAC), which seats 8,000
spectators. Nearby, Scarlet Knights football fans scream "Upstream,
red team, red team, upstream!" in the newly renovated High Point
Solutions Stadium, which seats a whopping 52,454.

Fraternities and Sororities
nGreek life at Rutgers dates all the way back to 1845. What does it
look like today? Like a gymnasium full of enthusiastic dancers,
boogying for 32 hours straight in order to raise hundreds of thousands
of dollars for the Embrace Kids foundation. Sometimes Greek life
sounds like a whisper, as members of Greek organizations study
together in the library to achieve academic excellence. Other times,
Greek life is really, really loud. For example, when they host
community service and recreational events like the singing and
dancingcompetitions during Derby Days, another major philanthropic
