HAMPTON BEATS KELLER IN TEXAS JUDICIAL BAR POLL

In the Texas State Bar Judicial Poll, amajority of the votes by Texas lawyers andjudges affirmed Keith Hampton as theirchoice, beating current incumbent Court ofCriminal Appeals Presiding Judge SharonKeller, 52 to 38 percent.

Of the nearly 9,300 Bar members who casttheir votes between April 8th and May 8thto decide the best qualified person for thisposition, more judges and lawyers votedfor Hampton than any other judicialcandidate for the Court, incumbent orchallenger. The vote for Hampton evenexceeded every current incumbent andchallenger in virturally every racethroughout Texas, including the TexasSupreme Court race.

"The vote is significant because the Barconsists of Republicans, Independents andDemocrats, all of whom are clearlyconcerned about this race and want a freshdirection for the Court," said Hampton.

Judge Keller has been rebuked by the State

Commission on Judicial Conduct and fined$100,000 by the Texas Ethics Commission.

The Court of Criminal Appeals is thehighest criminal court in Texas and is theonly Court which reviews death sentences.Hampton has broader experience withdeath penalty cases than

all the current sitting judges combined. Allnine seats on the Court of CriminalAppeals are held by Republicans. Hamptonis a Democrat.

"The lawyers and judges of Texas havenow spoken, and voters in November willhave the benefit of their collectiveconsidered opinion," Hampton said.

Keith Hampton was also voted "MostQualified" in the Judicial Bar Poll when heran for the Court in 2010.
