This is the largest forest in County Durham
. There are 5000 acres here for you to
explore with our trails.
The walking trails w
ill take you right into the heart of beautiful w
oodland w
here you may catch sight of deer,
adders, and maybe even leaping
salmon.
If you want to explore further into
the forest, use the Forest Drive. (See signposts around tge forest.) Recently voted one of England’s top scenic w
oodland drives, it is a spec-tacular 4 m
ile (6km) route that w
inds it’s w
ay up the valley following the
energetic streams that tum
ble off the North Pennines.
There are plenty of opportunities to stop along the w
ay to w
alk in the forest or have a picnic. Access to the Forest Drive can be gained w
ith a valid car park ticket.
