TAKE NOTICE that a special assessment roll has been prepared and is on file for public exam-ination at the office of the Hillsdale County Drain Commissioner during ordinary business hours andat the public hearing. The special assessment roll has been prepared for assessing the cost ofmaintaining the established lake level for Crystal Lake as permitted under MCL 324.30712.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that on Thursday, January 23, 2020, the Hillsdale County DrainCommissioner, as the delegated authority of the Crystal Lake Level District, will hold a public hear-ing at the Hillsdale County Office Building, located at 33 McCollum Street, Room 210, Hillsdale,Michigan 49242, at 10:00 a.m., for the purpose of reviewing said special assessment roll andhearing any objections hereto, and/or a determination of whether to confirm said assessment roll.The hearing may be adjourned from time-to-time without further notice.

During Bible college, I went on what was called extensionwork. This was off campus ministry in the “real” world. I par-ticipated in diverse ministries in penal institutions, hospitals,on secular college campuses and in rest homes.

One Sunday some of us were visiting in a nursing home. We would talk with residents, read Scrip-ture and even sing if they wanted. One sophisticated, well-educated lady from a ritualistic, formalisticchurch background engaged us is conversation. One of my fellow students said something aboutbeing “saved”. With a condescending look she said, “Saved? Saved? I don’t even think that termis in the Bible, is it?”

She was shown the verse above. Deflated and looking disappointed that the word “saved” wasthere she abruptly said, “Oh, well, go ahead and sing.” The conversation was over. She was obvi-ously not interested in such a crude approach to Christianity embodied in the idea that someonehas to personally admit themselves a needy condemned sinner and trust Jesus’s sacrifice for themon the cross to be saved.

I have known emergency response personnel who have rescued people from certain death. Thoserescued never sneeringly say, “He ‘saved’ me.” If anything it is a heartfelt, “He SAVED me!” Friend,Jesus SAVES!
