After months of preparation, the Great Britain women’s handball team will finally get chance to show to a home crowd just what they are capable of when the Four Nations International Tournament is staged in Sheffield on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 22 goals - Tomasz Lasek. THREE British handball teams took part in the European Challenge Cup last weekend, and battled well against professional sides from across the continent. Great Dane, Manchester and the University of Manchester played in Italy, Austria and Croatia respectively, and although not winning any of their matches they flew the flag well. Playing in Group C, British champions Great Dane began with a game against Greek side AC Fillipos Verias and lost out 39- 17, but were only 13-8 down at half time. In their second game against MRK Gorazde they were beaten 16-32, while in their final game against Italian side Gammadue Secchia they lost 38-18. Manchester were beaten 16-37 in their opening game against Russian tean Sungul Snezhinsk, beaten by hosts HIT Innsbruck 15-41 in their second game and overcome 25-45 by Turkish side Bursa Nilufer BK on Sunday. Manchester University lost to HC Buducnost Podgorica 11-39 on Friday, and were them beaten 17-34 and 16-38 by Croatian team HRK Karlovac and Swedish outfit LIF Lindesberg respectively. The top scorer out of the three British teams was Tomasz Lasek who scored 22 goals in their three games. Great Britain Women's Handball Team. Handball fans from across Britain and beyond are heading for the English Institute of Sport to watch GB take on Latvia, Turkey Under- 21s and the Faroe Islands. Much has been made of Team GB’s training camp in Denmark, where many of the players live, train and play together full-time under some of the best coaches around. But the talking stops now. It is up to the players to show the world just how much they have improved. National and regional media will be coming to the event with reporters, photographers and film crews eager to let the world know about British Handball’s World Class Programme. The other three nations have been specifically picked to give Great Britain a real test, without lining them up against the world’s top teams. It is all part of a carefully planned programme covering the next four years with the aim of making the squad competitive on the Olympic stage by 2012. Great Britain will know something about the Faroe Islands, having played them in the European Challenge Trophy in Cyprus in March where they beat them 19-16 while topping their group. But Turkey Under- 21s and Latvia are a relatively unknown
