Ambition “We both agreed that it was a great opportunity to play in a young team who have similar ambition and aspirations as ourselves,” said Williams. “The team’s goal this season is to qualify for the play-offs for the Elite League. This is great for us, as it means the intensity at every training session and the commitment of the players is of the highest level, and helps us as we look to develop and help GB when we are on camp. “Our coach here Jonas Wille, will also be working closely with us and our GB coaches to ensure that our development here is maximised.” After battling back from an ankle injury, Prieto is now returning to top form just in time for the beginning of the season on Sunday, while Williams is still currently a couple of weeks away from being fit to play after having surgery on his foot eight weeks ago. “The average age of the team is 22 which is great for me and Sebastian as we fit into that perfectly, and can hopefully play pivotal roles in the team’s success. Develop “The team is bolstered by a couple of older more experienced players too, one being Jan-Thomas Lauritzen, Norway's most capped player. “To play with a player of such experience is only going to help myself and Seb develop further, and we can't wait for the season to start!” Eager for Action - GB Captain Ciaran Williams. Returning to Form - GB Winger Sebastian Prieto. THE development of handball in Scotland continued last week when top officials from the European Handball Federation visited Edinburgh (see picture below). EHF President Tor Lian, Vice-President Jean Brihault, Secretary General Michael Wiederer and Development and Education Official Helmut Hoeritsch held talks with Scottish Handball Chairman Stephen Neilson, SportScotland Chief Executive Stewart Harris and SportScotland Partnership Manager Megan Griffiths. Among other issues on the agenda was possible joint development projects between the EHF SHA. *In other Scottish news, the Scottish Handball Association has opened a new office at the Inverclyde National Sports Centre, which is being staffed part- time by administrator Anne McLaughlin. The office number is 01475 687820, and Anne works from 1-5pm on Wednesdays and all day Thursday and Friday. TICKETS are still available for the Women’s Four Nations Tournament in Liverpool later this month, where Great Britain will take on Italy, Switzerland and Portugal at the Echo Arena. Running from September 23-25, Great Britain will be hoping for a repeat of the result last time they played in Liverpool, when they beat Finland to secure their place in the 2010 European Championship qualification round. Two matches a day will ensure there is always something to watch, but GB will be hoping to take victory in the event having already beaten Portugal this year in a tournament in Spain in May.
