Welcome to RQYS’s Manly Summer of Sail 2017/18
From Commodore Mark Gallagher
The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron has a
long history of One Design and Olympic
Pathway Sailing. All of the classes who are
present at the Squadron this summer have a
connection to the Squadron and our Olympic
and International representatives. This Summer
embraces all levels of sailors, it’s not all about
success, it’ about sportsmanship, and close
competition across the whole field.
I personally recognise events like this as being
high points on journeys for sailors young and
old, and events that create lasting memories
long after the importance of a result fades.
RQYS has a very proud history of running world-class events, the flag poles around our Squadron rigging
lawns commemorate the Finn Gold Cup in 1976, and since then we have hosted World and Australian
Championships for dozens of classes, including all of those present this summer. This year we welcome
competitors from around the country, the South-Pacific, and around the world, to a festival of sailing on our
waters of Moreton Bay.
I encourage you to enjoy the great facilities we have at RQYS, all created to support our sport. Please
respect the facilities that our members have built and maintained over many years.
The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron always keeps an eye to weather, and you will note the construction
of our new Marine Sports Amenities building, which on your next visit will provide state of the art shower and
change facilities, as well as race management rooms, straight off the rigging lawn.
We pride ourselves in our approachability and hospitality to visitors, don’t hesitate to ask a question of any
of our staff, or introduce yourself to me while here on your stay.
Lastly a big thankyou to all of the Volunteers who will give over 1,000 days of their time this summer to give
you a world-class series of events, make sure you thank them as part of your time here.
MG

FACILITIES AND ACCOMODATION
Getting In
• Each class and regatta has specified methods of boat drop-off, as specified above, in the Regattas section.
• From 4 December 2017, Regatta Visitors will only be able to drop-off their boats between 0800 and 1700 on the days designated. Trailer drop-off times will vary by regatta, but there will be a 2-hour drop-off period during the morning at the end of Davenport Drive, at the 9er and board drop-off.
• Early arrivals (boats and sailors arriving before 24 December) are to contact RQYS Reception upon arrival (please park your car and trailer in the public car and trailer park, and walk in) to be given access to the trailer drop off area.
• All classes (excluding all 9ers and Boards) will be dropping their boats off through the gate between the RQYS Car Park (adjacent to the main office building) and the dinghy hardstand to the East of Yachting Queensland’s building. There will be signage to guide you, once you enter the first set of RQYS driving gates. Boats can be unloaded in this area and moved on foot to the rigging lawns, trailers will need to remain on cars and be taken either to the trailer parking area off Davenport Drive at the times allotted, or taken away from the Squadron grounds. No trailers are to be left in the boat drop-off area.
• 9ers and Boards will be dropping off their boats/boards and boat trailers by driving to the end of DAVENPORT DRIVE (Rather than turning into the RQYS Grounds, after turning East off the Royal Esplanade, continue along the road to the South of the Squadron fenceline). The gate between Davenport Drive and the RQYS South-East Trailerable Boat hardstand will be open, accessing their rigging and launching areas. Sailors will need to walk the boat to the rigging area, where the boat will be stored for the duration of the regatta.
• Trailers can be left on the RQYS Grounds for the duration of the regatta at the Davenport Drive Gate, at the same place that the 9ers and Boards will be doing their boat drop-off.
• Please note that Davenport Drive is the street you will East (towards the Water!) onto from Royal Esplanade. To park in the Public car and trailer parking area, take the first left (Note: only cars with trailers attached may park in this area). To access the club directly, ensure you take the second left turn (through the RQYS outer Gates). To access the end of Davenport Drive (trailers, 9er and Board drop-off), continue straight along the road, which turns South behind the Motel then East along the Squadron’s fenceline.
• Once your boat is dropped off, to get into the grounds you will be required to visit RQYS Reception. At reception you will need to sign-in (you are only required to do this ONCE per regatta) and keep your Regatta Visitor slip on you the time at all times. Once you are signed-in, as per our Liquor Licensing laws, you will be provided with a PIN number for direct access to the Main Rigging Lawn walking gate at the end of the main building. The PIN number will work from 0700 to 1900 daily.
• Campers will need to follow these boat and trailer drop-off procedures. Campers will have access to drive in and out of the Squadron camping area through the Main Gates.
12
Support/Coach Boats
Support and Coach boats will not be allowed into the Squadron by water only. Boats shall be launched from
the Public Boat Ramp, outside the club fenceline, on the left, and then moored in its allocated wet storage

no dry-storage available for support/coach boats.
Any coach or support boats attending the regatta that will be on the water on race days, will be required to

Pre-paid Regatta Cash Cards
Cash Cards will be offered over the Manly Summer of Sail 2017/18, allowing parents to top-up voucher-like
cards which will give young sailors the ability to buy food without carrying around cash or credit cards.
To use this card, the parents must lodge one form per card at the RQYS Reception desk. Reception may be
able to produce the working card within 15 minutes however this may extend to 24 hours, subject to how
busy the club is. To ensure you have your cash card ready to go upon your arrival, please return the form to
Reception or the Sailing Office via email, prior to the regatta.
Lunch Pre-Ordering
Similarly to school tuckshop, you can now preorder your lunch and avoid the lunch wait, by filling in the
below form and returning it, with full payment, to the RQYS Café counter by 0900 the day PRIOR. Items to
choose from are outlined on the form below. Please ensure you hand any forms in on time because pre-
orders cannot be catered to if forms are handed in the day-of. To pick-up your lunch, please wait in-line at
the counter and advise the staff you have a preorder and provide them with your full name.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide on-water food drop-offs for those who do not back to shore for
lunch. We will do our best to cater to you if it is decided that sailors will have to race over lunch.
