ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHTJason Odell Williams is an actor and Emmy®-nominated writer from Columbia, Maryland. He received his BA from the University of Virginia and his MFA from the Actors’ Studio Drama School in New York City. He currently lives in Manhattan with his wife, actress and singer Charlotte Cohn, and their daughter, Imogen.

Handle with Care opened Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre on December 15, 2013, starring Broadway legend Carol Lawrence as Edna. It was a New York Times Critics’ Pick, and was recently optioned for a film. Mr. Williams’ first novel, Personal Statement, was published in August, 2013; it has been optioned for a three-picture deal, and books two and three in the series are in development.

When asked what he hopes people will talk about after seeing Handle with Care, Mr. Williams replied, “I want them to talk about their own families, their own stories of fate and destiny, whether or not they believe in fate or destiny or soul mates or if it’s all just a bunch of random chaos, to talk about their own stories of finding love and falling in love. I want them to leave the play buzzing and smiling and happy and feeling a renewed faith in humanity! Is that too much to ask??”

Roberta J. Morris (Edna) has played a variety of grandmothers and other demographically-appropriate characters since moving to this area. Favorite roles include the Soothsayer (Antony & Cleopatra at Silicon Valley Shakes), Grandma Gellman (Caroline, or Change at Theatreworks), cougar (c. 1700) Lady Wishfort (The Way of the World at The Pear), Grandma Emma (Over the River at Northside), and a sadder-but-wiser Wonderwoman in a 24-hour Playfest at PCSF. At playwrights’ workshops (City Lights Source, PCSF), she uses her cold-reading talents to transcend appearances and perform roles written for men and teenagers. She is delighted to be making her City Lights debut in this sweet play where the actors, director, and backstagers make her laugh all the time.

Roneet Aliza Rahamim (Ayelet) is excited to be back at City Lights for the holidays! You may remember her as Young Shirley Abramowitz in 2013’s Coney Island Christmas. Other CLTC roles include Thea in Hedda Gabler and, most recently, Constanze in the award-winning Amadeus. Roneet has had the pleasure of working for many Bay Area companies, including The Pear Ave. Theatre, The Exit Theater, Dragon Productions, and Playwrights’ Center of S.F. Some favorite roles include Janice in Crumble (Lay Me Down Justin Timberlake) with Swandive Theatre (Minneapolis, MN), the title role in Marisol with Theatre Pro Rata (Minneapolis, MN), and the Middle Eastern Theatre Festival - ReOrient 2012 and 2015 with Golden Thread Productions (S.F.). Roneet received her BFA from Marymount Manhattan College in NYC. To see what’s next, please visit www.roneetrahamim.com.

Jeremy Ryan (Terrence) is thrilled to return to the City Lights stage after most recently appearing as Diesel in West Side Story. He also appeared at City Lights as Geoffrey Court in the world premiere of Truce: A Christmas Wish from the Great War and as Bedevere/Concorde/Dennis’s Mother in Monty Python’s Spamalot. Roles elsewhere include Jake Mace in House and Garden (The Pear Ave. Theatre), Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman (Broadway West), and Sebastian in Twelfth Night (Silicon Valley Shakespeare). Jeremy is a graduate of the Foothill Theatre Conservatory and a company member at Play On Words San Jose.

Max Tachis (Josh) is excited to return to City Lights for Handle with Care. He has been seen here in ART (Yvan), the world premiere of Truce: A Christmas Wish from the Great War (Georg), the Bay Area premiere of Build (Will), and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Utterson, Hyde). As a playwright, Max had his own play, Perishable, Keep Refrigerated, receive its world premiere at Renegade Theatre Experiment in 2014.

When we announced our 2015-16 season, we asked you to describe City Lights in just one word. The words above came from that informal survey.

It warms my heart to see that you “get” us. You get that City Lights is different in a wonderful way. We’re always moving forward…we are helping to reinvent theatre for our patrons, and our future patrons. We’re unique in the way we treat our artists, our audiences, the art itself, even the way we do business.

This unique approach is only possible because of you, and our entire family of donors. As 2015 draws to a close, we ask you to consider City Lights when you think about getting your last tax break of the year. If you haven’t given yet, now’s the time. If you want to give more, now’s the time. Help us launch the future of theatre right now, today, with a gift to City Lights. Now’s the time!

Thank you for your continued belief in us and for embracing our uniqueness!

WHO'S WHO AT CITY LIGHTSLisa Mallette (Executive Artistic Director) is in her fourteenth season at City Lights and tenth as Executive Artistic Director, and she is thrilled to see the company continuing such dramatic artistic and administrative momentum. Kit Wilder (Associate Artistic Director & Grantswriter) is a graduate of Santa Clara University, has received training in London from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company, and has worked for innumerable companies in the Bay Area and beyond as an actor, director, and fight director. For City Lights, Kit has directed many productions, including String of Pearls, Wise Women, Assassins, The Waiting Room, Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches, The Goat, Angels in America Part Two: Perestroika, A Few Good Men, The Who's Tommy, Frank Langella's Cyrano, Equus, Hamlet, 44 Plays for 44 Presidents, Coney Island Christmas, and the world premiere of Truce: A Christmas Wish from the Great War (which he also wrote with Jeffrey Bracco). He has also appeared in Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show (2003), Clouds Hill, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Full Monty, The Three Musketeers, ART, and M. Butterfly.

Anne Younan (Development & Business Manager) has been a member of the City Lights team for the past eighteen years -- as Special Events Coordinator, Box Office Technician, Company Manager, Box Office & Business Manager, and now Development & Business Manager. For Anne and City Lights, it all began 26 years ago when she appeared in A Girl’s Guide to Chaos, followed by Mrs. California, Rememberance, Joined at the Head, Definitely Not a Christmas Carol, Nutcracker This!, and Circles, before taking time off to have her lively daughter, Sarah, in 2000. Upon her return, she appeared in the Spotlight Series presentation of Birth, and most recently Dead Man Walking. In May of 2004 she added her spirited son, Jake, to the fold at home, and now relishes her time at City Lights as quality “adult time.”

Ron Gasparinetti (Production Manager/Technical Director/Resident Scenic Designer) originally hails from Newark, New Jersey, has been a Bay Area resident for the past 2 decades, and has designed almost every CLTC show since 2011. His design work has also been seen at Palo Alto Players, The Dragon Theatre Company, The Pear Avenue Theatre, Los Altos Stage Company, Silicon Valley Shakespeare Company, The Jewel Theatre Company, and several other theatre companies in the Bay Area. Ron’s scenic design for Amadeus right here at CLTC garnered him a nomination for Best Scenic Design at the 2014 inaugural TBA Awards. To check out more of Ron’s work, please visit his website at www.TheSetGuy.com.

Rebecca Wallace (Marketing Director) is a writer, actor, and former longtime Bay Area newspaper journalist. Most recently, she was the arts and entertainment editor at the Palo Alto Weekly, working with a team of other scribes to write about theater, music, dance, and visual art in the Palo Alto/Stanford area. During that time, she was chosen for a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship with the NEA’s Arts Journalism Institute at Columbia University. On stage, Rebecca has performed at many local theater companies and a few smoky Hungarian bars—she spent a few years in Budapest, where she sang with a country-western band. She now focuses on using her writing experience to help City Lights tell its world of stories.
