Stress is the body’s automatic response to any physical or mental demand placed on it.

Adrenaline is a chemical naturally produced in our body as a response to stress .

What Is Stress?

Canon proposed that the stress response (fast) was a fight-or-flight response marked by the outpouring of epinephrine and norepinephrine from the inner adrenal glands, increasing heart and respiration rates, mobilizing sugar and fat, and dulling pain.

The Stress Response System

The hypothalamus and the pituitary gland also respond to stress (slow) by triggering the outer adrenal glands to secrete glucocorticoids (cortisol).

Are you feeling burnt out due to stress?

Page 34: Handling STRESS In the Workplace: Preventing BURN-OUT,Depression, & Exhaustion:Spiritual Tips for Stress Management

What Makes A Burnout? Symptoms You Should Know About -

Does it seem like every day is a bad day? Would you characterize most of your life as

“stressful”? Do you feel like keeping up your commitments is

just a waste of energy? Do you feel alone in the world? Do you find your daily work overwhelming or boring? Do you wonder if anything you do makes a

difference? Are you increasingly cynical about where your life is

headed?

Page 35: Handling STRESS In the Workplace: Preventing BURN-OUT,Depression, & Exhaustion:Spiritual Tips for Stress Management

Spiritual Tips for Stress Management 1.) Rest in God. Learn to trust in His

faithfulness. God is faithful and his covenant is a covenant of love. He will not forsake us and will treat us better than we deserve just as a loving parent treats a rebellious child better than s/he deserves. But our hearts must be tuned to honor God as God, not as just a good luck charm or a weekly guest into our otherwise busy lives.

Page 36: Handling STRESS In the Workplace: Preventing BURN-OUT,Depression, & Exhaustion:Spiritual Tips for Stress Management

Deuteronomy 7:9

Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Spiritual Tips for Stress Management 2.) You need to slow down.

You’ve worked too hard and simply adjusting your workload will not stop the burnout.

You need to actually take a break—make time to rest and heal. Rest & relaxation isneeded.

Psalm 23

A Psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me

beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of

righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I

will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Page 40: Handling STRESS In the Workplace: Preventing BURN-OUT,Depression, & Exhaustion:Spiritual Tips for Stress Management

Spiritual Tips for Stress Management 3.) Count your blessings. Take stock of all

wonderful blessings you now possess.

Page 41: Handling STRESS In the Workplace: Preventing BURN-OUT,Depression, & Exhaustion:Spiritual Tips for Stress Management

Psalm 103:1-5

A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Page 42: Handling STRESS In the Workplace: Preventing BURN-OUT,Depression, & Exhaustion:Spiritual Tips for Stress Management

Spiritual Tips for Stress Management 4.) Learn to live one day at a time.

Page 43: Handling STRESS In the Workplace: Preventing BURN-OUT,Depression, & Exhaustion:Spiritual Tips for Stress Management

Matthew 6:31-34

“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. “

-JESUS

Spiritual Tips for Stress Management 5.) Pray and don’t worry. Praying and

worrying cannot come together.

Stop worrying, if something concerns you, do something about it. If you can’t do anything about it, let it go.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
