On the contrary, what seems perfect for us might be the exact opposite. So, the course of the Christian is to be faithful, like a bride unto her groom. Let us slow down, be constant and consistent in prayer, to see what our Lord is trying to teach us. 2 Peter 3:8 tells us that one day to the Lord is a thousand years and a thousand years is like one day. In other words, our Lord Jesus can slow down today as if it is a thousand years. He is fully aware of everything we are going through, how we are thinking, our wants, desires, passions, concerns, etc. The Lord’s concern is that we believe unto everlasting life, to make us His disciples, for His will and His good pleasure. Help us Jesus, know when to slow down to truly learn the lessons you are teaching us… to truly sit at your feet even in the midst of fire and chaos all around us. Then, and only then, do we act and speak. Amazing Grace: Elderly Outreach I recently visited the Elderly Outreach at Harveston Chateau to meet Pastor Dave and Joe. One thing for certain is Pastor Dave …”Dave” is an extremely humble man of God. When I initially introduced myself he replied “You don’t have to call me Pastor Dave; Dave is fine. Titles tend to elevate people. I don't want to let anyone down.” Then he jokingly added “Shorter ladder to fall if you don’t have a title”. For both men the ministry is all about loving on the residents. Throughout the evening the Lord’s ministry of love and koinoia (fellowship) on His people was apparent. Q: How did you get involved in the Elderly Outreach? A: I knew Kevin and knew he needed help. Also, I was very close to my grandparents. In their last season of life they lived in a senior community similar to this (Harveston). The outreach gives me a sense of connection to my grandparents. Q: What does the outreach do? A: It’s all about loving on the residents. We have two weekly service, the Sunday service and the Wednesday night hymns & devotional outreach. Both services opens with hymns followed by a message. We also have monthly birthday parties. The team makes birthday cards and everyone signs it. The 3rd Sunday after service there is cake and ice cream to celebrate. The names of the residents are written on the board to acknowledge their birthday. Our weekly spotlight is on a very special and beautiful sub-group of people with disabilities — the developmentally disabled. Often times when we think or see the disabled the tendency is the label them as “needs support” or “burden” and quickly disregard. In truth, just like us, the developmentally disabled are children of God. He fashioned each of them in their mother’s womb. Our Father values them and He loves them just as He loves us. Within this population lies the need to be valued and contribute where they can. Their gift to society is LOVE …from a pure heart. A 2014 research study by the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp) reported that 85% of adults (18+) with developmental disabilities do not have a paid job in the community. Although the job market has taken a turn for the better the employment pools trails behind. Many companies are also jumping on the diversity and inclusion movement for better business outcomes. The developmental disabilities are being included in this movement as worthy pool of potential employees. Here are the reasons why; key findings from the i4cp study noted: 1) Companies hire people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) for business reasons and are rewarded with business benefits. 2) The profile of a worker with IDD reads like that of an ideal employee. Descriptors of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities include: dependable, engaged, motivated, great attendance, attention to work quality, and high productivity. 3) Positive reactions from employers abound.4) Challenges are fewer than expected and resources are greater than anticipated. Analysis of the data also revealed that success related to hiring workers with IDD is reflective of the level of commitment by the organization to IDD inclusion.

HANDS AND FEET OUTREACH

Reaching out with the love of Christ to the scattered and weary

A Word From Pastor KevinThe Lord is a great teacher. What seems terrible for us, might be exactly what the Lord wants us to go through so that we continue to be conformed to the image of His son.

Q: How did you get involved in the Elderly Outreach?

A: I knew Kevin and knew he needed help. Also, I was very close to my grandparents. In their last season of life they lived in a senior community similar to this (Harveston). The outreach gives me a sense of connection to my grandparents.

Amazing Grace: Elderly Outreach - Part 2:

I recently did a summer series called Chateau Summer. There was a guest speaker each Sunday and lunch was served afterwards. It was a success.

Q: Do you ever meet any residents who don’t know Jesus?

A: On occasion I give the call to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior but no one has ever come up. Most of the elderly in the ministry have a relationship with Jesus …some finish scripture verses when I’m saying it.

Q: Who makes up the Elderly Outreach volunteer team?

A: Joe is our worship leader and he truly has a heart for ministry to the elderly …often times he’ll continue to play music after the outreach is over. Kim gives rides to the residence. Eric (Kim’s newly wed) is new to the outreach; he’s learning but he can preach the word. Mike comes on Sundays to setup and take down. Dee recently joined the team. She’s phenomenal and will be helping with administrative work.

Q: What would you like people to know about you?

A: It’s not about me; is all about the Lord and what He is doing for His people. If I had to share something I want you to know that I teach strictly from scripture. If it’s my opinion I state clearly that it’s my opinion. I teach what the Bible says.

Q: Do you feel you're moving in the will of God by your service?

A: I know what I’m in the will of God in serving in the Elderly Outreach. It’s a privilege to do this ministry. I love the people which makes it easy. I love Joe and I love working with him.

Q: What is the most important thing for anyone wanting to serve in the Elderly Ministry?

A: You have to LOVE. It’s important that you sincerely love the people and love on the people. …It’s all about love.

Please visit the H&F website to see current ministry needs and how you can get involved.

Kenya Sings

Today we spotlight an orphan from our Kenya outreach, Omonyenya Fellowship church orphanage, located in Ksii Kenya. Please meet Felix, a 12 year old 6th grader. He was brought to the orphanage by a friend Pastor Opinga after he was found from going home to home requesting for food. It was later discovered that Felix had nowhere to sleep nor eat. He is polite and likes singing and reading. If you’re interested in adopting/sponsoring Felix would you please reach out to Bob Ritchie, Discipleship Home leader or Pastor Kevin. In the next few weeks details of the Kenyan orphans waiting for adoption will be posted on the Hands and Feet Outreach site. (Psalm 82:3-4)
