How to Order
The central role of parents
We recognize parents as the most important language teachers for young children, whether the children are developing as
expected or have a language delay.
Founded in 1975, The Hanen Centre is a Canadian not-for-profit charitable organization with a global reach. Its mission is to
provide parents, caregivers, early childhood educators and speech-language pathologists with the knowledge and training they
need to help young children develop the best possible language, social and literacy skills. This includes children who have or are
at risk for language delays, those with developmental challenges such as autism, and those who are developing typically.
The importance of starting early
The earlier children get the support and intervention they need, the better their language development will be.
The power of the “everyday”
Children learn to communicate not by being “taught”, but by participating in conversations with their parents during everyday
activities like mealtime, going for a walk or getting dressed. When parents know how to encourage and support their child’s
participation in these conversations, their child’s language grows.
