Thelast few monthshave been busy.Things are slowingdown and its hard to

believe its only a weektill Christmas. Flying has

been hit or miss on theouter banks. The water iscold but there have beensome good days of surfing.It has been raining weeklyand there are big pools of water out on the dunes.The beaches are prettytorn up too. Its kindof weird not seeingas many tourists and

businesses closingup so early.The Sunsets be-fore 5and itsgettingcolder. Itswinter timehere.

Im headeddown to Floridafor the holidays but I think Im going to miss the fly-inat Quest. Ill try and go flying while Im down there any-way. After that I dont know whats next. I dont haveplans just options. The only thing I know for sure is Ill

be flying.

It turned out to be a beau -tiful light east day. It was alittle bit soar able in the earlymorning but backed off andturned out to be a fun day for sled runs. All kinds of glid -ers were set up and therewas a good turn out of pilots.

Even John Harris got a fewights off the hill.

It was fun to see so manykites in the sky across fromthe store. I got to y 6 dif -ferent gliders that day.Most notable was the oldOrange Brock glider. Its

as simple as it gets and a lot faster than you think. You dontare you just let off the bar and it just stops ying. The Seagullwas similar and fun to y. There were also Falcons of everysize and Mark IVs, Pulses, and of course Eaglets 191 and 165.The double surface pilots were making passes and a number of attempts were made with the Falcon 195. Joe even madesomewhat of a top landing.

the gliders we y today.There was a ceremony

and a funeral service heldthat afternoon. Pictures of Rogallo through out theyears are still on display atthe Hang Gliding school.It was a great day to honor and remember the Father of Hang Gliding. -EM

M y camera bat-tery was dead and all Ihad was my cell phoneto take pictures. Therewas a big turn out and

it happened to be epicying but I had no wayto capture it all. I wishI had a video recordingof the camp res and theDear Abby concert thatwill never be forgotten.Im actually glad I didntdocument every moment.This kind of Mountaintrip for KHK is unique.

Its the only other timebesides Christmas thatthe school is closed and

everyone goes ying.Writing about it or evenhaving better pictureswouldnt do it justice.Its experience you haveto have for yourself.

It was so relaxing to just y with co-workersand friends. Its a coolfeeling to share the airwith people you knowfrom the training hill,doing what we try sohard to describe to stu-dents. The rst day was just sled runs and every-

one except I think twoinstructors ew. We hadabout 15 gliders loaded

on the van that morning.Nick and Hunter tooktheir very rst mountainlaunches ever that day.Hunter even startingturning and theramaledup over the LZ.

The next day was in-credible, but not at rst.

The rst few launch -es were just sled rides,but then the west wind

kicked in big time. Itbecame super soar able.I ew for 4 hours, weall got off the ground.There were tons of pilotsfrom all over. I got above4 grand and I know oth -ers got above 5. I real-ly couldnt travel to farwith my falcon but I had

plenty of time to do someexploring up and downthe ridge. The y in wasa blast and I cant waittill next year.

November JRSP

Fun day ying Jockeys Rigde in the fall. It was almost soarable but too light and cross. still fun toteach in. Doug and dave went swimming, Alex ew a falcon for the srt time. Wes got more comfortable inhis new Harness. A mob of middle schoolers and some kiteboarders appeared to watch the show. Just an -other day on the sandbar.
