Success StoriesJuly 2011

Page 15: Hanna Instruments

The Customer’s ChallengeA South American textile manufacturer needed a reliable pH meter to assure the correct dyeing of threads in the production of their quality fabrics. The pH of the dye’s dissolution water needed to remain stable in a very narrow range.

Our SolutionThe pH HI 2211 Benchtop Meter was suggested due its’ extended pH range and the two decimal place resolution which provides reliable and precise measurements. The 5 memorized buffer values allow the user to adjust calibration points to an expected pH range of samples.

The ResultThe customer found the meter’s automatic temperature compensation system (ATC) a useful tool as it provided real pH measurements without having to make calculations to rule out temperature error especially in the customer’s facilities where temperatures tended to be high. The electrode provided with the meter allowed a better contact with the sample due to its’ spheric bulb.

This meter adds measurement for ion concentration (ISE) and Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) in the mV range. It also features a reading stability indicator used during calibration and a measurement memory/memory recall function. pH measurements for both instruments are compensated for the temperature effect manually or automatically with the HI 7662 temperature probe. This meter is equipped with an easy-to-read LCD which shows both the primary reading and ºC.

Industrial … Success!

The Customer’s ChallengeAn NGO organization supporting more than 30,000 small farmers in Kenya required durable, field friendly and accurate pH meters to support field trials with lime. These trials helped the members manage the acidity in their soils and maximize the impact of their fertilizer inputs.

Our SolutionThe HI 99121 and HI 1292D direct soil pre-amplified pH and temperature probe were suggested so that they could test both the pH of soil directly or after preparation of a diluted sample. The HI 1292D features a conical, rugged tip that can be directly inserted in moist or soft soil. For harder soils, the kit includes a plastic auger to perforate the ground.

The ResultThis product, a direct soil pH meter allowed the group to quickly and correctly measure the pH level directly in the soil.

This kit features: Dedicated to soil pH measurement, specialized soil pH electrode, Multi-level LCD display, User friendly operation using only 2 buttons, On-screen tutorial messages, Automatic Temperature Compensation, Automatic one or two point calibration, BEPS (Battery Error Prevention System) alerts the user in the event that low battery power could adversely affect readings, Battery % displayed on startup, Compact, heavy-duty, and waterproof

Agriculture… Success!
